Hi I'm Derek Winmill

I'm a Mormon. I am also a member of the United States Army National Guard.

About Me

I was born and raised in Idaho, at less than a month old I was adopted to a great LDS family. When I was 13 my adoptive parents got divorced and my mother (adoptive mother) left the church and about a year later my dad (adoptive father) was remarried in the temple. I served a full-time mission in the New Jersey Cherry Hill Mission and after returning from the mission joined the U.S. Army National Guard. I love most anything out doors, camping, hunting, fishing, walks and hikes, riding Quads and sports. I bought a house in the past few months and am currently doing the work myself to put in a gas furnace with an air conditioner. I work at a heating and electric company and am doing an appreticeship there. I love studying the scriptures and serving others, when you serve it seems that all of your problems get put into a clearer perspective and it relieves a lot of stress in your own life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am LDS because I have prayed about Christ and have come to know that He is the Savior and Redeemer of the world and that He lives. I have also read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know whether or not if it is true and have come to know by the same power that I have come to know that Jesus is the Christ that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. By that same power have I also come to know that Joseph Smith was called of God to restore the fullness of the gospel to the earth in these the last days and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Gods kingdom restored to this earth for us. With this knowledge I could not just stand on the sidelines, God does not grant knowledge with out expecting action, and so I was baptized a member and am still active in all my mettings and duties in the church. While my adoptive parents we going through their divorce everything in my life was falling apart, everything but the Savior and His gospel. That was the only thing in my life that remained constant. From that experience I have come to more fully appreciate the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the strength that can come to us through it if we will but rely on Him and ask for His guidance. Basic training for the military also helped me come to understand this as well. The Savior remains with his arms out stretched all the day long for us to turn to Him and so long as we remain true to the covenats/promises that we make to Him. He will not forget us but will stand by us. I know that to be true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by fulfilling all of my duties and responcibilities in the church that are asked of me, by striving everyday to become more like the Savior by developing His attributes, and by sharing the gospel with those that are around me. I have commited myself to living the commandments no matter the outside influence because in the end it will not matter what the influence was in your choices or how many people around you are making those choices, it will only matter what you chose, was it right. It will also matter what kind of person are you, can the Savior see Himself in you? We cannot be perfectly like Him in this life but if we do all we can to be as He is then the Saviors Atonement can and will step into our lives and sactify us and endow us with spiritual power. I live my faith by keeping all of the covenants/promises that I have made to Him and sharing that same peace and joy that I have found in the Savior with others.
