Hi I'm Shannon

I am a wife and a mother of 3 and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

This is a busy time in my life. Being a mother of three, most of my "about me" is about my family. And I'm OK with that. I enjoy watching my kids at their various activities, helping with homework, challenging them to do more, seeing them succeed in different things. We live near mountains which my husband strategically planned becauase that's where he loves to be. We spend a lot of time going up to Rocky Mountain National Park to hike and camp and sometimes rock climb. I've always enjoyed the arts and I love to paint. I also enjoy finance and do bookkeeping for a few local business as well as my husband's business.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church and have always had a testimony of it's truthfulness. I grew up in Saudi Arabia and even though we met under different circumstances than we do here in the States, the Church was the same in its doctrine. The same principles of truth were taught. We met in member's homes in a branch group of about 20-25 members. We had the same block of meetings, just in different surroundings. Like Sacrament was in my family's living room instead of a Chapel. I was baptized in the Persian Gulf instead of a ward building baptismal font, which I've always thought was pretty cool. I mean, who can say that? What this taught me was while we may have traditions doing things a certain way, the only parts that really matter are that ordinances are done with proper authority, that truth is taught, and that we invite the Spirit to our meetings and in our lives. I am grateful for the clarity the Church gives me and my family. There doesn't seem to be much clarity out there in the world but I never have to wonder about where I stand. My faith gives me a sure knowledge of my beliefs on any issue and I can say them without apology, because I'm sure of them. I know Jesus Christ lives and that He came to this earth. I know He atoned for our sins and through repentance and obediance, we can live with Him again. I know that we were created in the image of our Heavenly Father and that He has an infinite love and concern for us and wants us to return to Him.

How I live my faith

"Human felicity is produc'd not so much by great Pieces of good Fortune that seldom happen, as by little Advantages that occur every day." -Benjamin Franklin I think this sort of says it for me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm making any progress but then I look back at a lifetime of daily efforts and I see accomplishment. Some of the daily things we try to do as a family are scripture study and prayer and eating dinner together. I know in addition to our family scripture study it's important for me to read and pray on my own. The quiet moments I have in the mornings to pray and study help me face the challenges of the day.
