Hi I'm Matt

I'm a Mormon. I teach high school and I love my job. And I love being happy!

About Me

My name is Matt. I just graduated from Brigham Young University in Secondary Ed. I teach Health, Japanese and I coach soccer. I come from a large family but it is kind of like the movie "Yours, Mine, and Ours". It is a second marriage for both of my parents and I am the youngest of 16 kids! Kinda crazy but family parties are a blast. My dad is 81 years old and my mom is 68 years old. They are both in good health and my dad completed a half marathon and a marathon within the last year. My mom loves to swim and exercise everyday. I love all of my siblings and I have a unique relationship with them. They are all married and have kids so I am often referred to as "uncle matt", and I love fulfilling my calling as an uncle. I love sports and anything outdoors. I love driving my motorcycle and going rock climbing or canyoneering in the beautiful canyons of southern utah. I don't know that I want to live in utah my entire life but I do want to live somewhere with mountains and with all four seasons. I love summer, winter and everything else in between.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for so many reasons but I think the easiest answer is because of the effect this church and it's teachings has had in my life and my family's lives. I was born a member of the LDS church and regularly went to church with my family. I enjoyed it as a child because that is where a lot of my friends were. As a teenager there came a time when I was about 15 or 16 and I remember really thinking about the church and what it claimed to be-the restored church of Jesus Christ-and I thought that I needed to find out for myself it was true and worth staying a part of. I felt like the church wasn't an easy thing to be a part of if it wasn't true then I decided I wasn't going to be a part of it. So I studied and ready the Book of Mormon. I remember not understanding a lot of it but I do remember that I wanted to read it again and learn more about it's teachings. Since then I have felt a strong desire to be connected to the Savior and His teachings. I am only 26 years old but it seems that there is so much hurt and heartache in the world. With so many uncertainties in life I love knowing that I have a Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ who live and love me. I am a mormon because of the way it makes me feel. It allows me to feel their love for me and gives me a chance to share that love with others. The Savior's teachings in the Bible and Book of Mormon give me a sure knowledge that despite life's difficulties we can still guided and live life with a purpose and meaning.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday through my actions, words, thoughts, and deeds. It is a challenge to stand up for what you believe in this world but I feel the love and support from God and Jesus Christ when I remember what they expect of me. The simplest way I live my faith is through remembering that the Savior commanded us to Love One Another. I am not perfect at it by any means but I try to look at my students, coworkers, and everyone I interact with, with an open heart and mind. I believe that God often uses us to answer somebody else's prayers and if there is anyway I can help somebody else that I would like to be available for God to use me!
