Hi I'm Ryan

I am husband, a father, a lover of fantasy novels, action movies, growing pumpkins and old dictionaries. And, I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the great state of Colorado. After serving as a missionary of the church in New York City I went to college and eventually ended up living here in Utah. I met and married my best friend and we have two little boys who keep us very busy. I enjoy reading fantasy novels, watching movies and TV and I am an avid pumpkin grower. I work for a 3rd Party Logistics Company.

Why I am a Mormon

I guess I initially became a Mormon because I was born in a Mormon household. My parent's taught me the truths of The Gospel found in the Bible and The Book of Mormon and never missed an opportunity to share their conviction and testimony of the teachings of the church. However, that is only a part of the reason why I am still a Mormon. I have come to know through my own personal experience of studying the scriptures as well as attending church services and the temple that the church is true. This testimony came as the result of numerous experiences of being touched by and guided by the Holy Ghost. Through all this I can now say with conviction that I know that God The Father lives, that Jesus is The Christ, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that Thomas S. Monson is The Lord's prophet on the earth today. I know that The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and that it has the power to change your life as it has changed mine. The Church has provided me with direction and with an anchor in a world that is constantly reshaping and revising its values and its opinions about what is right and wrong. It gave me hope when my mother passed away that she was not lost to me. It has helped me to avoid a multitude of mistakes and problems and has taught me to rely on My Savior who can and will cleanse me of the sins and mistakes that I do make. It has made me a better husband, a better father, a better son, a better employee and a better man. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I think one of the most important ways in which I try to live my faith is by striving to be a good husband and father. When I was a teenager, I remember something one of my church leaders James E. Faust stated in a talk during one of the church's general conferences. He said: "I urge the husbands and fathers of this church to be the kind of a man your wife would not want to be without." I was only 15 when I first heard him say that, and a long way from becoming a husband or father, but I never forgot it. Since then I have contentiously striven (with varying levels of success) to live up to that standard and to become the man that My Savior would like me to be. Ultimately, that is how I seek to live my faith; by working every day to be more like Jesus. That desire to be like Him carries over into every aspect of my life. I work every day (also with varying degrees of success) to be an example to others of what it means to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so that they might see the joy that The Gospel of Jesus Christ brings to me and the joy it can bring to all those who seek to follow it.
