Hi I'm Susan

I'm a mother of 8, and "Grammie" to 9, I love to laugh and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Life is wonderful! I've been married for 37 years and I'm a mom to 8 children, four boys and four girls. They're all grown up now and we have 9 grandchildren who bring so much joy to our lives. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. My daughters and I have a recipe blog where we share our culinary successes! I've worked in retail for almost 20 years which keeps me very busy. I love to read and I've been a volunteer in our local library for the last 4 years. After so many years of driving a huge van full of children I downsized to a minivan - but that's about as small as I'm willing to go, I just can't get used to tiny cars! I grew up in Colorado and I love living here! We've taken our children camping all over this wonderful state. I love having my yard full of flowers in the summer, I love the fall when the leaves change, but I will admit that although winter happens every year, and I'm used to it, well, I don't really love the cold. I look forward to spending time with my grandchildren, reading them stories and listening to the funny stories they tell me. They say so many delightful things! This is one of my favorite quotes from Gordon B. Hinckley, who was the previous president of our church: "In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured."

Why I am a Mormon

I learned about the Mormon church when I met my husband. While we were dating I visited the church and then decided to meet with the missionaries and learn more about what the Mormon's believed. As I read the Book of Mormon and prayed each day I had such beautiful, happy feelings it was as if my eyes were opened. I understood so many things, such as why were are here on this earth and where we go when we die. So many questions were answered for me at that time. I knew that I wanted the Gospel in my life and I was baptized in 1974. This was the best decision I have ever made. Having Jesus Christ as the center of our home has brought such peace, joy and happiness to my life and our family as we raised our children. When I have trials in my life, as everyone does, I rely on the Savior through prayer, reading the scriptures and being at church on Sunday. He brings such peace and comfort to me that I'm able to carry on and move forward. I can not imagine my life without the blessings of the Gospel.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have served in many ways in the church. I've been a teacher in the women's group and I've taught in the teenage youth group. I've participated in many projects such as making hygiene kits for the victims of the earth quake that occurred in Haiti in 2010. Right now I teach the 6 year old children on Sunday. How I love being with those sweet children! We have a fun time learning about Jesus Christ in our class on Sundays. I also have several special activities for my little class during the year where we make crafts or have water balloons and squirt guns at a pool party. As women in the church, we are assigned to visit with 3 or 4 women in our ward (congregation) each month. Usually I don't really know these women but we develop deep friendships as we get to know one another and help each other when ever we can. Every morning when I pray I ask the Lord to lead me to someone I can help that day. I am so very blessed to be a Mormon!
