Hi I'm Andre

I grew up in South Africa. I joined the Church in SA in 1979. In 1993 I with my family immigrated to America

About Me

I am a father of two girls and love being a husband and father. My wife and I are looking forward to our youngest daughter going to college next year. I am a sports fanatic and being from SA I love Rugby. I have recently acquired a telescope a 8 inch dobsonian and am hoping to develop that into a full time hobby. I am also grandfather to two little red heads a boy 18 months and a girl 4 years. I love being a grandfather it is the most fun in the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church in 1979 after having discussions for about six months. I had just turned 25 so it was very definitely a life changing experience for me. As a young adult there were many changes that I had to make in order to be a member and even friendships that fell by the wayside, but I knew that what I had been taught was true and I needed to make those changes. I remember discussing the Gospel Principles with the missionaries and feeling that warm glow within testifying that what they taught was true. After being baptized I have had the opportunity to serve in many different area's in the Church which have strengthened me and helped me in my commitment to serve Heavenly Father to the best of my ability. As a member for over 30 years my testimony has grown stronger daily in the sure knowledge that this is His Church. I am looking forward to serving a mission with my wife.

How I live my faith

I serve as Bishop in my ward which is a great responsibility and blessing. My calling keeps me pretty busy. i love the opportunity to serve the saints in my ward and in the community. Service is a priority and our ward has adopted a local food bank to help and also a non profit business who helps handicapped adults with jobs that they are able to do. I am a firm believer in doing the basic things right and that the rest will take care of itself. Personal prayer, family prayer, spousal prayer, scripture study and service. I love going to the Temple and serving there too. My calling also involves a lot of interaction with our youth. I am amazed at their strength and commitment.
