Hi I'm Kendra

I love to hike and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to hike and anything that gets me active- soccer, lifting weights, running (if you saw me it's probably best defined as jogging). I live in Philadelphia and work for a non-profit organization which helps find people with special needs employment. I'm married to an incredible man who is just as spontaneous as I am. When we're together, watch out. You never know what's going to happen. We are expecting our first child- a little boy and we couldn't be happier!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family, a Mormon community, a Mormon dominated culture even. For me, being Mormon was simply a fact of life and came without question- but not always. As a teenager I realized that I didn't go to church, read scriptures or even hold church youth leadership positions because I knew the Church to be true. I did those things simply because that's the way my life had played out. I decided that I needed to know- really know- if I believed all that I had been taught. I did not want to simply do these things because they were expected or because that's what the social norm was. I wanted to do them out of conviction. One night before going to sleep, I knelt beside my bed and acknowledged to my that I had never actually found out for myself. I simply asked him if the Book of Mormon was true. For if it was, I knew that everything else- prophets, doctrine, etc- was as well. As I ended my prayer, I waited. Then, I felt a warmth in my heart that I knew had not been there before. I knew. I finally knew. As I crawled into my bed and under my electric blanket, I knew that the warmth was not anything that came from the outside. It came from a loving Heavenly Father who answered my prayer. Because of this and many other sweet experiences of feeling God's love, I know that Jesus is the Christ and has again called prophets to teach and guide His people. Through faith in Him and obedience to his commandments, I can receive all the blessings He has in store. I already experience such a peace in my life that come from living His teachings. It blesses me and my family- and I know, for myself, that this is His Church.

How I live my faith

At home I study scriptures and pray daily for myself and also as a couple with my husband. Also, right now I help organize meetings and activities for the women of the church in Philadelphia. We've done service projects, recipe exchanges, and workshops. The best part of these activities is seeing how we all come together, despite our unique and varying backgrounds, to help strengthen each other and others in the community.
