Hi I'm Candela

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a happy mother and wife. I was an ESL teacher for adults (refugees and immigrants) for several years until recently. I'm now a full time mother and I love it! I still enjoy my hobbies, like oil painting and distance running.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when they were teenagers. They've taught me about the Gospel and Jesus Christ my whole life. When I became a teenager, I asked God to know if these things were true. I wanted to know for myself. I didn't only receive an answer then (through peace and an immense joy!), but continue to do so today. Some of the principles taught in this church, like personal revelation (the ability to receive direct answer to our personal prayers from God), is one of the many reasons why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

This church encourages involvement from each one of its members. I currently serve as a Gospel teacher and leader of teenage girls (ages 12 to 18). We meet every Sunday for Gospel learning and every Wednesday to do service to our community (outside the church), and to learn useful skills (public speaking, college application, leadership skills, healthy cooking and exercising, etc.!!). We also have girls' camp during the summer and spiritual theme-oriented meetings to strengthen our youth. When it comes to my "daily Mormon life", I can say I pray every day and read the Book of Mormon, Bible, and some articles of the Liahona (a church magazine with inspirational articles submitted by members from all over the world). I try to become a better mother, wife, daughter, friend, neighbor through following the teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ. I read about his life and teachings and try to emulate them. It's hard! But I don't mind spending my life trying to do something hard, when I know it's good!
