Hi I'm Matt Smedley

I'm a surfboard shaper, a snowboarder, a dad and husband. I'm a web analyst, and computer geek. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Born and raised in California. Two year mission to Porto Alegre Brazil Degree in Psychology, and an MBA. I spent 5 years working for Nike to improve labor conditions in over 20 countries in Asia and Latin America. Another 5 helping business execs lead and manage across cultural differences. Recently made a career change and working in Web Analytics. I have an amazing wife, two fun and crazy kiddos. We love to boat, snow ski, hike, swim, and drive our jeep with the top off. I grew up as a stanch Republican, but my experience working in the developing world has given me a different worldview. Over the years have come to appreciate different political perspectives and would consider myself an Independent.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that God The Father, and Christ visited a young Joseph Smith and re-established the pure Church through him -- the same Church that Christ established around 2000 years ago, with apostles, the priesthood, and revelation. Additionally, I love the fact that wherever I go in the world, I have a group of instant friends, and I know that when I go to a church meeting in Provo, UT, or in Jakarta Indonesia, it will be the exact same doctrine and teachings.

How I live my faith

I believe God and Christ want us to have joy, so I try to live a "full life" -- experiencing new things, constantly learning and challenging myself to grow. Most importantly, I try to follow the example of Christ -- being kind and compassionate, serving in my community, and making people smile and laugh.
