Hi I'm Susan

I'm a Mormon. I'm also a wife, a mother, a swimmer, an avid-reader, music-lover and chocolate eater!

About Me

My husband and I met in a Sociology 101 class our first year in college. We sat next to each other in the back of the class and passed notes during lectures. I'd sit starry-eyed watching him play basketball and he'd find excuses to go by the pool where I was lifeguarding. Eight years later we have two awesome kids, one dog and two cats! When I'm not taking care of home and kids I'm reading, baking, going to Zumba classes, or keeping in touch with family via facebook or blogger. As a self-described fish, I love swimming and teaching swim lessons. I also love music - whether it's singing along in the car, playing the piano, or taking in a concert or musical - I love it!

Why I am a Mormon

While growing up in the church I learned about Jesus Christ, repentance and a living prophet. I grew up knowing that I am a child of God and that he loves me. This knowledge, to me, is priceless. I also learned about honesty, being kind to others, and how to make good choices in an often scary world. Now that I am a mother, I'm a Mormon because I want my children to grow up learning these truths as well. I feel the church has given my husband and I the tools a family needs to stay strong in uncertain times. But mostly, I'm a Mormon because I have a testimony that the church is true. It gives me hope, comforts me during times of trial and reminds me of what is truly important.

How I live my faith

Every day I live my faith as I pray to my Heavenly Father for guidance. I can see his blessings and mercies in the small and simple aspects of my life. I once heard that God is willing to be as much of a part of our lives as we allow him to be, and I believe that to be true. We hold weekly Family Home Evenings to provide our children with a spiritual education and to bring our family closer together by setting aside an evening with no TV, phone calls, or computer time. We sing, pray, read, talk, and play together - it's my 5 year-old daughter's favorite night of the week! As a member of the church, I have opportunities to serve others that I don't think I'd take the time to do otherwise. I serve with the young women in the church ages 12 - 17. We teach and hold activities for these wonderful girls and show them that living with high moral standards is not only possible, it can be fun too! Serving in the church has brought me a sense of fulfillment and gratification that I'm making a difference in the world.
