Hi I'm Elder Cody Pickup

I play football, basketball, baseball, and just about anything else. I am serving a mission in Virginia, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary serving in the Virginia Richmond Mission. There are 10 kids in my family and I am number 9. I love to play sports, hang out with my friends and companion, and eat food (it doesn't matter what it is, I am not picky). I love sharing the gospel with everyone. I will be going to school to become a general practitioner or general physician. I love to help other people with their needs. Other hobbies include eating, sleeping, working with my family, eating, having fun, and eating. I love being able to make people laugh and have a good time. I grew up on a small farm/ranch raising horses, cattle, chickens, and sometimes turkeys.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a Mormon. I was born into a Mormon family and I have always been grateful for it. Although I was born into it, I had to have my own conversion. Why else would I be spending two years of my life in Virginia when I could be doing other things. I am grateful that now I have the chance to share the gospel to all who are looking for truth in their lives.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing my beliefs in Virginia. I try to live my faith to the best of my abilities so I can receive exaltation in the next life with my Heavenly Father.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Elder Cody Pickup
Yes, we do consider the Bible to be holy scripture. It was written by prophets who were called of God and they recorded the history, doctrine, and testimonies of those who have faithfully served God. Many people believe that the Book of Mormon conflicts with the Bible. This is not true. We believe that the Book of Mormon strengthens and solidifies the Bible, making it more correct. Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Elder Cody Pickup
When Jesus Christ set up His Church, He called 12 men to be His Apostles. When Jesus Christ was crucified, the Apostles were called to preach the gospel to the world. Over time, the Apostles were rejected and killed. The authority was taken off the earth when all of the Apostles were killed. Through Joseph Smith, Jesus Christ called 12 Apostles. The original Apostles were not replaced. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primative Church. One of the 17 points of the true Church is that it must have the same organization. Our Church is based on apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ at the head. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Elder Cody Pickup
It is a commandment from our Father in Heaven. Malachi 3 talks about bringing tithes to the storehouse for the building of the Kingdom of God on the earth. The law of tithing is more of an act of faith rather than an act of bringing money into the Church. We are promised that, if we live by this commandment, the Lord will see our desire to follow Him and He will bless us in this life and in the life to come. Show more Show less
