Hi I'm Jena

I grew up in the Houston, Texas area. I am a single parent and a school counsleor. I love to garden. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been a single parent now for about 12 years. I have raised 5 boys and 2 girls. All five boys are Eagle Scouts. We enjoy soccer, camping, hiking, and band. Three of the boys play the tromebone and one plays the barisaxiphone, both girls play the piano. We have a huge yard and lots of fruit trees and a large garden. We can a lot of what we eat. I am a school counselor and I enjoy working with students and helping them get along and solve their problems. Both of my oldest children have graduated from college. My son graduated in business and my daughter in intergrated stuido arts, with an emphasis in photography. One son is on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is serving in Brazil.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Houston, Texas area and had a lot of friends of different faiths there. I learned to respect their beliefs. However, I was very grateful for the direction The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints offered to me. Even though I went to a High School that had a large number of kids drinking and partying every weekend, I was able to avoid the drugs and problems that went with them as a result of my religious beliefs. Some of my best friends were killed as a result of drugs and I feel really bad about that. As I grew up and moved away from that area, I had my share of other trials. When times were hard, like when I became a single parent, with 7 chldren ranging in age from 13 to 3, I was able to gain strength from my testimony of a living and loving Heavenly Father who knows me and my struggles. I was able to go back to school and finish my degree in school counseling, while working full time to support my family. I never felt alone as I was able to feel my Savior's love and support. When my father died, I was able to understand that I will see him again and know that he is aware of me. I am grateful for the knowledge that God does care and is aware of what is happening in my life, every day, every minute. I feel his love and concern for me.

How I live my faith

I am very active in my community and in my church. I have served for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. I was a Cub Master and an Advancement Chairman for several years. I have been able to be a visiting teacher for over 26 years. When you visit teach someone you go into their home at least once a month and develop a friendship with them. You are able to help them if they have problems, i.e. help watch their children, take them to a doctor's appointment, or just encourage them. I am also a member of our County's CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). I have been able to attend trainings to learn how to deal with natural and man made disasters.
