Hi I'm Whitney

I am a college student. I currently live in Thailand teaching English. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 21 year old college student studying elementary education. I graduate next Spring and hope to have the opportunity to be a teacher. I am currently in an international language program that has given me the opportunity to live in Thailand and teach English. I live in the house of a Thai family with four other girls around my age. I love art and literature and try to make time for both in my life. I try to look at every day as an adventure no matter what I am doing. I'm excited for the future and grateful for the past but I try to live life as it goes by rather then always waiting for the next step. For example, I have been planning my wedding with my high school sweetheart and I'm terribly excited to marry the man I love, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to be in Thailand; I try to live each day to its fullest.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I know God is there and that he loves me. I was born into the church and have always known that my Heavenly Father knows what I am doing, what my intents are, and how I feel about him. I also know that he wants me to be happy because I have felt his presence and seen his hand in my life. Because this is the case I know that the things he has asked me to do will only lead me to happiness. No parent wants to see their child sad, helpless, or lonely. If this is also the case with a Heavenly Parent how much more so would he want us to have joyful, fulfilling life? Because of Jesus Christ and his atonement there is a plan in place that can help us obtain the happiness that our father wants for us. All we have to do is listen to his words and follow his instructions. This sometimes seems difficult because the world tries to convince people that the wrong things make a person happy, however, in Gods Eternal Plan, following his commandments here on earth is a small thing to ask, especially when compared with the promises he has made if we obey him. I love my Heavenly Father and my older brother Jesus Christ. I want nothing more then to live an obedient, righteous life by obeying the commandments they have given me.

How I live my faith

When I am at home I live my faith by going to church each week, attending the temple, reading my scriptures and other prophetic works, and fulfilling my church callings. My church callings have ranged from working with the women my age to helping to plan activities for everybody. I try to visit other women in my ward each month to check on them and I pray to me Heavenly Father everyday. When I start slacking off I notice a negative change in my mood and attitude and abilities. While living in Thailand I also try to attend church each week, although it is much more difficult here. Church now takes two hours to get to on a train and in a car and two hours to get home from. This means that church is a seven to eight hour commitment on Sunday. When I get there I can't understand the language but I can still feel the spirit. My church records are at home so I can't have a calling and there are no temples near by so i cannot attend. However, having had this experience I have become far more grateful for all the opportunities that I had at home. I look forward to being able to enter the house of the Lord again and understand my church meetings. While here I have been diligent with my scripture study to make up for my lack of understanding.
