Hi I'm Alan

I live in Melton, Victoria, Australia. I'm a radio station disc jockey, ukulele player, roller derby banner maker and Mormon.

About Me

I have been making banners for roller derby in Victoria ever since it started its current resurgence about five years ago. A skating injury where I fractured an elbow some months ago has put a hold on my secret ambition to be a roller derby referee. I play ukulele (a Flea soprano) and am going through a country music phase, which I find funny because as a rule I don't like country music. My soul music program on my local community radio station is the only soul music radio program in Victoria west of Melbourne.

Why I am a Mormon

I first heard about the Church when I accepted a work colleague's invitation to come along to a Church talent night. While I was there I got a copy of The Book of Mormon. I started to read it and the Holy Spirit testified to me that it was true. I already knew the Holy Bible was true. I joined the Church as soon as I could. That was over 35 years ago. My testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, the Holy Bible and the Church is stronger than ever. And I still enjoy coming to Church.

How I live my faith

I served for 28 years in the Victoria Police. After I retired my wife and I were asked by our church leaders to move to Horsham in western Victoria so I could be the minister of our small congregation there. It was very rewarding to serve the members of the congregation and also the greater Horsham community where we did volunteer work. We are now back in Melton. I now serve in the church as part of the youth program.

What is the priesthood?

Alan
I'm a retired police officer. One thing I noticed when my fellow police officers asked me about the Church is that they all understood the importance of having proper authority. Just as a town needs people with proper authority to protect them and enforce laws, so the true church has people with proper authority to lead it and perform ordinances. That proper authority is the priesthood and it is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
