Hi I'm Ken

Husband to a wonderful woman, Father to 4 beautiful girls. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the 4 seasoned days of Victoria, Australia and moved to a more tropical Queensland with my parents and siblings as a 13 year old. I am the second of 7 children and the oldest boy. I've played with computers all my life and yet studied Business at University majoring in Human Resource Management and Communication. I served a mission for the church when I was 19, for 2 years in Sydney Australia and learned to say hello in 14 languages. I married a wonderful woman and live in the city area with our 4 children. Currently I work as a control systems programmer for Australia's largest Telecommunications company. I love a lazy summer day and Vegemite sandwiches.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church before I was born. I grew up surrounded by a loving family as typical as any Australian family. As an 8 year old I chose to be baptised and I remember that event, even today, as peaceful and sweet. I am a Mormon because I choose to be this way. As a Mormon I learned about the Plan of Happiness that Heavenly Father has given us. It inspires me to be a better person. Nothing brings me more joy or peace than when I am doing the things I know are true to this plan. The Church teaches that families are essential to Heavenly Fathers plan. With this knowledge my wife and I have come to understand the real role of importance a parent has in the lives of their children and from this, we have developed some wonderful family activities and events that have already demonstrated how close our family is and how prepared our children are to face the world. I believe that it would have been impossible to get through life without the truth that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings to my life. I can be surrounded by all the troubles of the world and he will show me a way out, and bring me peace. God has always been there for me, he “gets”, Me. My Heavenly Fathers can truly help me reach my potential. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ with my whole heart, and owe who I am and what I will become to it. These are just a few of the reasons why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The most important roles I believe I have, is that of a husband and father. My life is busy with good employment, which takes me away from the home daily, and church service, that seems to fill up the rest of the time. However, I have found that by consciously putting my family first, I am able to find time to read scriptures and pray daily as a family. We are able to schedule “daddy daughter dates” and dates with my wife, and family activities that build stronger relationships of love and trust. I believe the greatest act in my life is to raise my family up in the Lord and help them develop testimonies of God for themselves. In this they will make wise decisions and be great contributors to their own families, the church, and the community.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Ken
In the 2011 floods in Queensland, more than just a few members of the church were affected. The whole community was affected. From the day that the flood warning was received, more than just members of the church were evacuated. The members of the church gathered together in swelling numbers to help the community. They evacuated its members and the non-members and after the flooding returned with the people to their homes and together in large teams, removed rubbish and mud and prepared the homes to be habitable again. Those that could not work this way, found other ways to provide comfort to the people, some provided food, and some opened their homes for families to live in or to store valuable items. The church is its people going out and helping others. Show more Show less
