Hi I'm Tanner Nelson

I am a student and an avid learner. I am a brother and an only son. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student and I have a passion for learning. I have been interested in politics, history, acting, and I am currently studying marketing and business. In my early high school career I was convinced that I wanted to be in the military, but my Juvenile Onset Diabetes (Type 1) ensured that I wouldn't be able to join. Undeterred, I decided to get involved in politics. I studied politics through high school and college but decided after much study that it wasn't what really made my life fun. I have a passion for history, especially American history from 1930 to 1960. I realized that something I truly enjoyed doing and studying was marketing and business after my father and I sat down in a restaurant and decided what made the restaurant run. I worked in that restaurant for about half a year before beginning my service as a missionary in the Arizona Tempe Mission. I enjoy reading, writing, religion, politics, history, acting, design, and business. I'm best described as a student, though. A student whose example is God and teacher is the Holy Ghost.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. I love this gospel because of how I feel when I live it. After reading from the Book of Mormon and praying to know if it was true, I originally thought I felt nothing different. I realized then that God was testifying to me of the truth of this gospel through my good and peaceful feelings. I love this church because I am happy in it and I know that if others live and abide by its precepts they will be happy too. God wants all of us to be happy and the fulness of everlasting joy and happiness is found when we live and govern our lives through gospel principles.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing it with others! God commanded us to take this gospel unto all the nations of the world. (Matthew 29:19) As I share the glad message of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I share in the joy and happiness that comes from it. This gospel is the gospel of peace, happiness, salvation, and redemption. I live my faith by firmly obeying the commands of God. I have learned through experience that salvation comes by obedience and that being obedient makes us happy. When we obey God, we are blessed. As I am obedient, I feel His love more abundantly in my life. I want others to feel this same love. I live my faith by serving diligently as one of God's chosen servants in Arizona. I live my faith by setting a Christ-like example to my friends and to my family. I live my faith by loving God and doing what He says. I am happy because of it.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Tanner Nelson
Mormons believe the purpose of life is to gain a body and then use the God-given gift of agency to learn how to make choices - good and evil. We must all choose for ourselves who we want to serve, whether it be God or the adversary, Satan. These choices allow us to learn and gain experience available nowhere else so that we can become more like our loving Heavenly Father. He has given us families to help us stay on the path back to Him. On earth we are given the chance to have a family. This opportunity allows us to come closer to God and eventually return to live with Him and our families for eternity. Show more Show less

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Tanner Nelson
No. Those people who do practice polygamy are not members of this Church and cannot be affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Polygamy is a sin, unless authorized by God through His prophets as in the times of the Bible. Early on in the history of the Church, God commanded Joseph Smith through revelation to practice polygamy for a short time. But since 1890, the Church has not practiced polygamy by way of commandment from God. Show more Show less
