Hi I'm Marian

I'm a grandma who still loves teaching eighth-grade English. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family, travel, teaching, and music. I can't imagine life without music! I sing, play guitar and piano, and currently perform with a string band and a ladies quartet. We're not famous, but retirement centers love us! While raising our three daughters, I quit teaching public school and worked at home as a piano and guitar teacher. At age 50 I did a daring thing and returned to teaching English in the public schools. I truly enjoy spending my days with 8th graders and love the challenges and sweet rewards of teaching. Prior to my marriage at age 30, I had opportunities to travel and live abroad and developed a particular love for the Japanese people. Fortunately, my husband shares my love of people and places and when we retire, we hope to do a lot more exploring of this beautiful world.

Why I am a Mormon

This can be a noisy, troubled world, and yet the principles and ordinances of the Mormon faith bring me sweet peace.  I know that God loves me and offers me true happiness as I choose to follow His beloved Son. The Mormon faith offers me the holy scriptures of the Bible, as well as the Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Christ, as well as the teachings of modern prophets. Through these scriptures and revelations, I know who I worship: (1) a loving Heavenly Father who has granted me this mortal probation to develop faith and trust in Him and in His Son who will lead me along back into their presence, and (2) my personal Savior, Jesus Christ, who atoned for my sins and who will be my advocate with the Father. Of course, I love the Church and all the very visible programs for families, education, welfare, and personal improvement. But to me, those are secondary; they are the fruits of Christ's gospel and restored priesthood authority and power as restored for us today through the prophet Joseph Smith. I am a Mormon because I have experimented on the word. I have studied the Book of Mormon and the Holy Ghost has sweetly witnessed to me that it is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be Christlike. Of course, I often fail, but I try to love all people. I pray daily that I can be a positive influence as I teach public school. I try to be a good neighbor and help out whenever I can. I pray daily that the Holy Ghost will guide me to help anyone in my path who needs help. I know that prayers are answered in the Lord's wisdom, so I live my faith by developing patience and trust in the Lord, knowing that he is mindful of me and my family. I also live my faith my being active in the Mormon Church organization. I currently serve as the music leader in the Primary (Children's) organization in our congregation. I prayerfully plan fun ways to teach the children the inspired truths contained in our wonderful children's songs. I also serve as a visiting teacher and visit two dear sisters at least monthly in their homes. I live my faith by joyfully paying a full tithe on my earnings to the Lord. I live my faith by regularly attending the temple to worship and renew my covenants. I live my faith by teaching my granddaughters that they are daughters of God.
