Hi I'm Sherril

I am a Jamican, I love reggae music and spicy foods and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Jamican who has been living in the United States for the past seven years. It was purely by chance that I came to this country; discontent with my place of work led me to desire a change of environment. Other chance events after I came here put me in a place where the missionaries were trekking and my inherent belief in God prevented me from ignoring their knock on my door. I never dreamed of being a Mormon as I knew very little about the Church except that they had missionaries who go around in the hot Jamaican sun trying to convert people. Since being baptized, I have come to accept that I was placed in this country to become a member of the Church. It would have been much easier to walk into another church back home than to sit and listen to the missionaries. Jamaicans are very connected to the churches in which we were raised and are reluctant to learn anything that might be different. I have a passion for reading and do believe curling up with a good book is arguably the ideal way to spend one's spare time. I enjoy listening to good music especially reggae and watching crime, legal and medical drama's on television. While I am not exactly a 'party person', I do enjoy a great 'get together' from time to time.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the Church teaches us about the love of God and how His love determines every aspect of our lives. The Savior said if we love Him we keep His commandments. When we realize how much our Heavenly Father loves us we will love Him in return and show this love by keeping His commandments. The restored Gospel taught me about the blessings of repentance and the gift of forgiveness. I learn how important family is to the Lord's plan and even though I am single I know that the family of which I am apart can be together forever if we follow the Lord's plan for us. Being a Mormon gives me opportunities to serve others and this has blessed my life in countless ways. It is through service that I have come to know the love of the Savior and see His blessings in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by constantly seeking out God's will in my life. I do this by studying His word and going to Him in prayer. I also show my love for the Gospel by serving in Church whether it is in my callings to teach the youth, teach adult Sunday School classes or to serve the sisters in my ward. I try to reach out to sisters who are facing difficulties in their lives and whenever I can I spend time with sisters who are in need of friendship or companionship. I recognize that I am nothing without the Savior and I try to make Him the center of my life each day. I live my faith by choosing to do the right at all times but recognizing my imperfections and asking for forgiveness whenever I make missteps.
