Hi I'm Janice

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I have been married for 29 years, we have four children and five grandchildren. I am working on finishing my B.A. in education which I have worked on off and on over the last 20 years. I am a library assistant in a high school and plan to take a librarian position when I graduate. I enjoy mountain biking, raising chickens, reading, surfing the net and family vacations.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by good Christian parents and am grateful for the things they taught me. I questioned some of the teachings I did not understand as I got older. After I married my husband, who was an inactive Latter-day Saint, he began attending church and I continued to go to mine. I eventually took the discussions so I could understand why he wouldn't come to church with me. This is when I found the answers to questions I had been looking for. I never understood how unless all people belonged to the church I had been attending all others were consigned to hell. I worried, what if I'm in the wrong church? I couldn't believe a loving Heavenly Father would do that to good people. I learned that he won't. A multitude of questions were answered: God does still speak to us today, the heavens are not closed to revelation, anointing and healing sick or otherwise afflicted, authority to baptize, and many more truths I had only limited understanding of and which the church I attended could not answer. I have gained a testimony of the things I have learned through prayer and reading the scriptures. I have felt the presence of my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost (three distinct personages) in my life. I am eternally grateful to my Heavenly Father and the plan of salvation, for through this great plan I will see my son again. As I live the principles set forth by a loving God I know I will return to him and see all my loved ones that have passed before me. Because our family has been sealed as an eternal family in the Lord's Holy Temple and as we live the gospel of Christ here on earth, we can be together as a family in the eternities. My faith has grown during periods of trial such as losing my son in a senseless tragedy. Knowing we are a forever family has given me the strength to move forward.

How I live my faith

Over the 20+ years I have been a member I have held many positions. I have been the leader of the women's organization, youth leader of young women ages 12-18 and primary leader of children ages 18 months to 11years. I have been a teacher in these same age groups as well and am currently the chorister for the primary age children as well as the Family History Center Director overseeing the needs of those volunteering their time helping individuals seek out their family histories. During tragedies around the world I have participated with the youth and women of the church in preparing hygiene kits to be sent to all people stricken by earthquake and tsunami, have prepared boxes sent to local children's homes and women's shelters, crocheted leper bandages, made baby blankets and baby hats to be given to newborns in hospitals and through it all enjoyed the spirit of Christ like service as we have come together to serve and feel the pure love of Christ for our fellow travelers in this journey through life.
