Hi I'm Syd

I love reading, running and eating cookies. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student and I love hanging out with my friends, working out, and eating basically any kind of dessert. I'm a person who likes to talk and laugh all throughout movies, much to the chagrin of others. I absolutely love history. My favorite thing to do when I'm on vacation is to go to museums and learn about the area and people. I love reading the obituaries to see how people lived their lives and what their story is. When I have free time, I love to read clean romance novels. If I ever get the opportunity, I would love to travel and see the world!

Why I am a Mormon

I know that this is the true church. I was born into the church and grew up learning and loving its teaching, yet it wasn't until recently that I started to know for myself that it was true. I've had some struggles in my life that I could not have gotten through in one piece without the knowledge of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that He atoned for my sins and that He knows all that I'm going through, even just my pains, worries, and fears. I know that this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, the same organization, keys, authority, and teachings that have been present since the time of Adam. I'm not just saying this. I KNOW this. Life is hard sometimes, but the gospel makes it easier. Knowing that I am a child of God, that He knows me and loves me, gives so much comfort and direction. I love this gospel with all my heart.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in everything I do, which sounds simple and it kind of is. My faith helps me remember why I am here on earth and that EVERYONE is one of God's children. We have the responsibility to look out for one another and lift up the hands that hang down, comfort the afflicted, bear one anothers' burdens. This is sometimes really hard for me to do since I'm painfully shy. But that's okay. Because of Christ's Atonement I can be strengthened and be able to overcome my trials, even the trial of timidity which comes from my own weaknesses. The important thing is the direction that we're going; that we're trying to overcome our flaws. My faith helps me be more patient with myself and with others. We're not perfect, nor will we be in this life, but through Christ we can work towards that goal. My faith helps me in the choices of which movies to watch, music to listen to, and what I should do with my time. I don't want to do things that take me farther from Christ, not just because that is what the Church says to do, but because I know how it makes me feel. I know how I feel when I'm doing what I should and I know how I feel when I'm not. I'm so much happier, healthier, and more at peace when I'm trying to aline my life as near as I can with Christ's teachings. Family is central to my faith, and knowing that I can be with them for eternity gives me such hope and joy. I love my family and want to do everything I know I need to do to enable us to be together forever.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Certainly not. In catastrophes the Church is one of the first to help, regardless of where or what religion the victims are. Even just at a local level, we strive to be friendly and help those in need, be a friend to those who need one, comfort the afflicted, lend a helping hand to ANY who are in need. Show more Show less
