Hi I'm Bill

I'm a husband. I'm an aspiring mathematician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up all over the country and even travelled the world a bit as a kid. My father was in the Army, which gave me a good exposure to many different people and many different places. I have always been good at academics, and have sought out academic pursuits which I enjoy. Currently I'm attending Cal State Sacramento to earn a degree in Mathematics. After graduation I will seek a career in Actuarial Science. I met my wife three years ago at church and the two of us found an instant connection. We dated for about six months, were engaged for another six, and were married in June 2009. We enjoy a peaceful life together with our two dogs in the Sacramento area.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and I never really questioned my faith as a child. When I matured a little, I took my faith more seriously. I started to read the Book of Mormon and the Bible with great interest. I found the two to be copmletely compatible and to both engender faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I studied the teachings of the modern prophets and apostles and found them to do the same. By the age of 15 I had a very intellectual testimony that everything the gospel taught was either true, or it was not. That may seem like a bit of an obvious statement, but when dissected, it really is powerful. I had one decision; either accept the Bible, Book of Mormon, modern prophets, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as true, or reject them all. Unfortunately, I didn't find the answer to this question until I a few years later when I stopped looking with my head, and started seeking spiritual knowledge by the power of the spirit. My sister was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2006. The night that she was diagnosed was a very difficult one for our family, and I was very distraught. I turned to prayer for some sense of consolation. I had the thought to turn to the scriptures, which was one of the greatest thoughts of my life. I came across a passage in 3 Nephi 10:3-6 which references God as being merciful and as a being who will protect His children and will encircle us in His arms of love. At that moment I felt the love of the Lord stronger than ever before in my life. I knew at that point that it all was true, there was no falseness in the assertion that Jesus lives, the gospel is true, and I must stay true to it for the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

I have tried to continue to gain knowledge in the gospel. My wife and I read from the scriptures every night together to try to improve our testimonies. I have tried to surround myself with positive music, especially the hymns, which helps my spirituality. I am currently a teacher in the primary organization for our ward. I help teach the 4, 5 and 6 year old kids. It is a challenging assignment, but one that I'm sure will expand my abilities and my testimony further. I know that I am an imperfect man, and that I have many follies. But I also know that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, my imperfections can be made my strong suits. I try to live that knowlegde every day.
