Hi I'm Vern

I grew up in the western part of America. I work as a Gemologist/Jewelry Appraiser. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful woman and combined we have six children. We were both previously married, her first husband died and I am divorced from my first wife. We both had two children a boy and a girl each from before and then we had two children both girls together. Our four oldest kids have moved out two are working in coffee shops, one is going to college and the fourth one is in the Air Force. Other than work I spend all my time with my wife and kids, mostly doing yard work but we do love to travel when we are able, the Oregon coast is one of our favorite spots as well as tent camping, walking and biking. Some of my other interests are collecting watches, beach combing, PBS nature shows and watching movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon but stopped going to church when I turned 18, being a bit of a rebel. I went to college for one year then was married and had kids right away so I had to get a job and start earning a living, college went on the back burner. The first few years of married life we weren't going to any church since neither of us wanted to go to the church that the other was raised in my first wife was raised Lutheran. After a while we decided to go to a non-denominational church United Church of Christ to be on neutral ground. My wife eventually decided to join the church but we had an agreement that I wouldn't join since it never felt right to me. I had many different jobs during that time in my life and as I look back now I can see how God was always there trying to guide me back to what I knew was right by putting employers or other employees that were Mormon in my path. It was then that three life changing things happened within a few months of each other that opened my eyes and brought me back to the Mormon church. First I went through a divorce that I didn't see coming, second my employer of ten years went out of business and third my dear Mother got cancer and passed away. At that moment I turned my life around and now more then a decade later I am an active member of the Mormon faith and I have been re-married, this time for time and all eternity to my beautiful new wife. I know that our Savior Jesus Christ lives and wants us to be happy, if we will follow his teachings and example we will be happy. Its not always going to be easy but He and our Heavenly Father are always there, they want us to be like them and they want to give us blessings, if we will just come closer to them they will come closer to us I know this to be true because I have recently sacrificed or given up some more worldly areas of my life and I can feel the difference.

How I live my faith

The past couple years in our Church I have been assisting our Bishop by setting up his appointments and other assigned duties. I also visit two families at least once a month in their homes to share a spiritual message and see how they are doing and if I can be of any service to them.
