Hi I'm Jared

I'm a computer engineer, I love hiking and camping and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love hiking and camping, there is nothing quite like being out in nature surrounded by the beauty of the world that God has created. By profession, I'm a computer engineer and I make chips, but not the kind you eat. Most importantly I'm a husband and a dad. I have a wonderful wife and three fabulous children, the youngest joining us through the miracle of adoption.

Why I am a Mormon

I see the benefits of following Christ in all aspects of my life. I see it in how I work in my professional life, the things I do for recreation, and the value I place on education both secular and religious. However, I think that the most important benefit for me, is how it helps me as a husband and a father. It's wonderful knowing that my Heavenly Father knows me and my family individually. It's comforting to know that when I'm wondering what to do, I can turn to him and find the answer. I love knowing that he will help me to be the best that I can be, both as a husband and as a father. It's also great to have the answers to the big questions in life so that I can teach them to my children. The questions of "Why are we here in this life on Earth? Where did we come from? And where do we go after we die." It's also comforting to know that our Heavenly Father knows the desires of my heart. Sometimes, he gives me the answer to the questions I didn't even know to ask. My wife and I had always desired to have a large family. We came to realize that we couldn't have any more children after our second child was born. We trusted in the Lord that even though it wasn't what we had planned, things would work out for the best. A couple of years later, while we were traveling home from visiting family, I had a thought come into my mind. "You need to start the paperwork for adoption." I said to my wife, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Even though we had never discussed adoption and didn't really know very much about it, the exact same thought came into her mind at the same time as it had into mine. To make a long story short, not long after arriving home, we started learning about adoption and just more than a year later our third child's birth mother picked our family for her baby. God had answered the desires of our hearts, when we didn't even know what we needed to be praying for.

How I live my faith

I do my best each day to try to follow the example of Jesus. I try to find ways to help others. Sometimes it's lending a listening ear to those who need it, other times it's lending a helping hand. Oft times it means putting aside life's busyness to respond to the feeling that God puts in my heart that I can help someone, instead of hoping that someone else will do it instead. At church I help out with teaching a class on Sunday to some of the teenage boys in my congregation. I also work with the same boys during the rest of the week in the scouting program, taking them on hikes and camp outs. It's very rewarding seeing them learn more about Jesus and his teachings as well as learning new skills that increase their confidence in themselves.
