Hi I'm Lisa.

I grew up in New Mexico. I'm an athlete. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in New Mexico with three older brothers while my dad served in the military. My mom and dad always encouraged me to be who I wanted to be and make my own decisions. I followed my dream of becoming a gymnast and ended up at BYU competing on the gymnastics team. I met my husband at school and we have been married four wonderful years and counting! We live in Puerto Rico and we are expecting our first child this fall. I love cooking, running, and enjoying the outdoors--to me this earth is a true testament of God's love for us.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe it with all my heart. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that families are eternal. I know that through Jesus Christ's Atonement, I can be made clean and see my Father in Heaven again. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, I feel it everytime I read. Knowing all those things, it makes life simple. And it makes my decision to be a Mormon simple. I know it, I believe it, and so I choose to live it. I grew up in a Mormon family where I was taught the basic truths of the gospel. But I feel I was truly converted during my senior year of high school when I really started searching for my own answers. I think we all have to make that step of conversion, even when we were born into it.

How I live my faith

My husband and I go to church every Sunday. I make an effort to pray to God everyday. This helps me have a personal relationship with Him, and I feel His help in my daily trials. I also try to read the Bible or Book of Mormon everyday. This gives my life perspective, and I often find answers to my life's questions when I read. I am trying to live after the example of Jesus Christ and treat others with that same great love he did. I'm not perfect, but each day I hope to come a little closer to His great example.

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Our body is a gift from God. We were created by Him and in His image. It's important to appreciate and respect this gift by taking care of it, like anything valuable we've been given. What we do to our bodies affects our minds and our spirit. It's hard to think clearly and know what God wants for you when you abuse your body through drugs and unhealthy living. As a woman or girl in the world today, we receive so many conflicting messages about our bodies. If we aren't careful, we can begin to see our bodies as merely objects. But the Lord wants so much more for us. Whenever I am feeling insecure, I remember that this body is something God gave to me, and that makes me feel strong. Show more Show less
