Hi I'm Alan

I'm a work-from-home software engineer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a software engineer who owns a small business that provides programs for businesses. I work from my home office and so I spend a lot of time at home. When I do manage to break away from my office, I love to play racquetball, golf, snow ski and water ski. Of course, I also love to spend time with my wife and 3 children who, I think, have a warped idea of what it means to go to work because I'm always at home.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Mormon, but when I was a young adult, I decided to take another path. I thought the commandments taught by the Mormon church were too restricting and I wanted to live my life and have fun. After pursuing happiness in this manner for several years, I found that ultimately, I was not happy at all. The happiness gained in looking for fun was a fleeting happiness and many of the decisions I made resulted in sadness and pain rather than happiness. As I continued my search for happiness, more subconsciously than consciously, I found myself being drawn back to the Mormon church. I discovered that by living the commandments of God and following the example of Jesus Christ, we can be happy. It's like our loving Heavenly Father gave us commandments not to restrict us, but rather as a guide to happiness. By following them, we make decisions that bring happiness into our lives and peace to our souls.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest truths the Mormon church teaches is that God cares about each of us and wants us to succeed. This doesn't mean he will make it happen, but as we ponder on problems or questions that we have, he will help us. This doesn't only apply to religious things. I know that the strengths and abilities that I use in my business come from inspiration from my Heavenly Father. Whether I'm stuck on a particularly nasty software bug, or dealing with clients, or finding ways to promote my business, I know I can count on His guidance.
