Hi I'm Spencer

My favourite band is Death Cab for Cutie. I love physics. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 18 years old, but come September I'll be 19 and shortly after that I'll be heading out on a mission for the church to teach the gospel where ever I'm needed. I'm in university studying to hopefully one day become a Materials Engineer, working in either R & D for a sports equipment company or for an engineering firm doing failure analysis. I was born into the church. My mother has been a member of the church her entire life, but my father is a convert who joined 3 years after my parents were married. This has been a great blessing in my life, as my father has helped me see many principles of the gospel from an entirely different perspective, which has helped me realize how blessed I am to have been born into the church. Sports have been a huge part of my life, I love playing pretty much any sport you can name though soccer (football) is far and away my favourite. I have loved reading since I was super little, and my favourite book is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger, I went to church and participated in the various youth programs the church has mostly because it was what my parents wanted me to do. But when I was 14 I had the opportunity to attend my first of 4 EFY (Especially for Youth) programs. During that week I learned so much about myself and the gospel that there is not enough room here to write it all. It was also my little defining moment when I realized that the church was true, and that I wanted to live it to the best of my abilities, knowing without a doubt that it would lead me to a long happy life. Since then, my testimony has grown, and I have gained a deeper appreciation of the blessings the church brings into one's life that I had taken for granted in my youth. I'm far from perfect, but I know from experience that my life is far better, and I am far happier when I am living the principles of the gospel. I'm a Mormon because I know it is true, and I know that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is the source of true happiness in this life, and in the life to come.

How I live my faith

My mother is a huge volunteer in our community, and some of that has rubbed off on me. I enjoy volunteering, doing activities such has bottles drives, and reffing community sports. A member of my ward, who ironically is also named Spencer, and I have the opportunity to go to certain members home once a month and teach them various principles of the gospel, this is known in the church as home teaching. I have a testimony that home teaching is a wonderful thing, and I find myself often learning more from the people I teach, then they may be learning from me! I also have the great privilege of preparing the sacrament for my ward. This ordinance is similar to the communion in other churches, as it is bread and water we partake to help us remember the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ. I try to live my faith through little every day things, holding doors open for people, being kind and considerate to everyone I meet, and by simply treating others the way I would like to be treated.
