Hi I'm Mike

I'm a retired IRS official. I managed a fraud group with the IRS. I have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In high school, I became interested in accounting and decided to major in accounting in college. After graduation, I secured a position as an internal revenue agent with the IRS. As young marrieds, my wife and I wanted a church home. Through a friendship at the office, my wife's friend recommended we visit the local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We immediately visited and found the members so friendly and welcoming, we later joined. We have been members since 1975 and raised all of our children as Mormons. After joining the Mormon Church, I continued progressing with the IRS and later became a specialist in identifying and developing tax fraud cases. I subsequently became a supervisor of agents specializing in this area. I found this to be a rewarding profession since some cases involved businesses who had neglected to file income tax returns despite making millions in income. I found my career to be completely compatible with my religious beliefs as a Mormon. The high ethical standards of the Mormon Church are reinforced by the IRS's standards of conduct. During my 36 year career with the IRS, I served in the Church's local ecclesiastical leadership serving in various capacities including 5 1/2 years as a bishop (spiritual head of a local congregation). I am currently serving as a temple worker in one of our beautiful temples. Even though lay leaders are not compensated monetarily, the compensation is "out of this world."

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon. The Church has so much to offer including children, youth and adult programs. The Church religious and youth activity programs including Scouting assisted us in raising a wonderful family. During high school, each son attended early morning seminary, 1 hour of religious instruction on the Holy Bible as well as LDS scriptures, served a 2 year religious mission 3 served foreign missions and all four married in the temple. Each son is pursuing a successful career and are now raising their families in the Mormon Church. Over the years, my belief in the Mormon Church has been reconfirmed many times by the spiritual experiences I have had through the witness of the Holy Ghost. Our Savior Jesus Christ taught during his mortal ministry we should serve others and love others. The Mormon Church every day practices this teaching both in the local congregations and at large. I have been suffering from cancer and am frequently consoled by other members who express their love and concern for me. I love my Savior and treasure my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Church has helped me grow spiritually and ultimately enhance my relationship with my Savior by providing me opportunities not only to serve in the Church by serving others but also to study the scriptures more intensively than I have in my life. The Church's emphasis on regular personal and family prayer has also drawn me closer to the Savior and our Heavenly Father. Even though life is hard particularly compounded by suffering from stage 4 cancer, I am able to continue in faith due to the spiritual strength I have developed over the years as a practicing member of the Church.

How I live my faith

As a temple worker, I provide service 1 day a week for patrons attending the temple. I perform sacred ordinances for patrons attending the temple. I love to assist the patrons who visit our temples and endeavor to make their visits as spiritually rewarding as possible. I also teach a Sunday class for men. I have been asked to care for 3 families within the congregation. I visit the families regularly and provide needed assistance including visiting them in the hospital and providing priesthood blessings when requested. My wife and I along with our 5 year old twin grandchildren attend Sunday services each week. We receive the Lord's Sacrament during our sacrament service and attend classes appropriate for our ages. I am currently attending an adult Sunday School class in which we are studying the New Testament. Following one Sunday Service, my wife and I visited and ministered to an elderly couple within our congregation. As the Savior taught us to love one another, we attempt to put that teaching into practice by serving one another.
