Hi I'm Corey

I grew up in Utah and served a mission in Madrid, Spain. Our eighth child was born after I turned fifty. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My world was turned upside down at 14 when my parents got divorced. Because my mom raised us as Mormons, however, I was surrounded by good examples and father figures who taught me how to live. Through prayer and scripture study, I came to know that I had a loving Father in Heaven who knew me personally. He reached out to me in very personal ways, and I have felt His guiding influence throughout my life. I was directed toward my profession in religious education. Originally, my plan was to follow my brother's example and become a doctor, but God directed me to become a teacher instead. I am a teacher at heart, and love to see the change that comes over students when they gain spiritual understanding. I am directed every day as I prepare to teach, and I see God's hand touching student's lives constantly. I trained 40-60 volunteer teachers in Michigan for six years. Most of them taught high school age youth before school. It was a constant miracle to see these dedicated, unpaid teachers spend so much time and energy to prepare and teach students in early morning classes. It was also a miracle to see these teenage students consistently coming to class in the wee hours of the morning. There is no logical explanation for this behavior other than to recognize that God's hand is in it. Heavenly Father helped me find my wife, Kathy. We were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, and our daily efforts are focused on helping our children to be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

Though my parents were divorced, my mother raised me and my siblings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have always felt a deep conviction for my faith, and a connection to a loving Father in Heaven. Christ's church has been restored with the same organization as existed in the original church. It has a foundation of apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ as the "chief corner stone." The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion, and is a companion scripture to the Bible in its witness of the resurrected Lord. Anyone can come to know for themselves that the Book of Mormon is true by the power of the Spirit. As stated by Moroni, the final prophet to write in the record, we can know the truthfulness of the Book by reading and asking God. The Book promises that "if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." I have gained that witness! As stated by another Book of Mormon prophet, "all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, ...its motion, ...and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." Every spring nature bears witness of Christ's resurrection as grass and flowers spring forth out of the earth to testify that He is risen and lives today. I testify that there are apostles and prophets on the earth again. They are special witnesses of Jesus Christ, and they teach the truth. You can hear their teachings in a General Conference of the Church that is held every six months. Conference reports are available to see and hear on the church's website: lds.org. I encourage anyone to check out these inspired teachings. You will feel the power of the messages. You can also check out the "Bible Videos" and "Mormon Messages." You can gain a personal witness of the truthfulness of these things the moment you begin a serious study of them!

How I live my faith

I pray and study the scriptures every day. Serving in leadership positions has given me opportunities to serve people throughout my life. I served a two-year mission in Madrid, Spain from 1979-1981. This experience taught me to put the needs of others ahead of my own. Working with other missionaries, and the native people of Spain, taught me of God's profound love for His children throughout the world. It became absolutely apparent to me that our Heavenly Father is mindful of us all. I felt His love flowing through me to touch the lives of the good people in Spain. These experiences prepared me to marry and raise a family. A modern Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the name of Boyd K. Packer, has taught that "the ultimate end of all activity in the [Mormon] Church is that a man and his wife and their children might be happy at home." This is what my wife, Kathy, and I are working most to achieve. We have eight children, who span in age from a married daughter (26), to an infant boy, and joy of our lives, who just turned 3. We are hopeful that each of our children will marry well and similarly raise happy families of their own. We know that "happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." We are constantly striving to live those teachings and encourage our children to do the same. Through an essential program in our church, known as "Home Teaching," I have been able to help many people in need. I have been home teaching for almost 40 years now, beginning when I was a young 14 year old. As home teachers, we visit families and individuals who are single, widowed, or divorced in their homes. This gives us the opportunity to teach the gospel, and to love and serve others. By visiting in the homes, we are reaching out to people in need, much like the Savior did during His mortal ministry. My life and family have been blessed by this service, and I have learned to love and serve my fellow man.
