Hi I'm Janessa

I am a California Girl. I love Volleyball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an college student currently studying Math Education. I love playing Volleyball more than anything in the whole entire world. I love being in nature and the beauty it has. My favorite place to be is the beach and hanging out with friends. I have one brother that is a year older than me. My mom works with autistic kids and my dad is an engineer. I love life and everything it has to offer.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been Mormon my whole life but it wasn't until I was about 17 that I really had to turn to God. Volleyball is a big part of my life. I had been to Junior Olympic qualifiers and played volleyball all through high school. I had over 30 scholarship offers from big schools and was planning to play in college. Then the summer before my senior year I went in for a check up on my heart. The doctor told me that it would be life threatening to continue playing competitive volleyball. I was devastated. Volleyball had been my life. Why would God take that away from me? What I did not realize is that God had bigger plans for me. So with all my Volleyball options taken away from me, I decided to attend one of the LDS schools. This decision came not by my choice. I was planning on attending a community college and in the end I felt that I needed to attend a LDS school. When I arrived I thought that most people were freaks. Lets face it. My whole life I had grown up with "worldly" people and being thrown into a place that was 99.9% Mormon was a little weird. I would be walking down the street and people would go out of there way to ask how I was doing. I probably scared people with my attitude and weird looks but eventually I understood why they did this. These people were genuinely interested in my life. They did not know me, but my existence meant something to them. I had never felt so loved by a group of people. I know for a fact that God led me to here because he knew that I needed friends that held the same standards as me. Playing Volleyball would have been great, but I am no longer angry at God for my heart problems. Instead I am grateful, because it led me to realize that I need to learn to love just like the people at my school. I need to be a light in the dark. I know the Lord was preparing me for something better. I am Mormon because of the happiness and the light I have seen the Church give to so many people and to myself.

How I live my faith

I live my Faith in service. I am a very logical person and faith has always been a hard concept for me. The way I feel the spirit is by making sure that I give love to everyone I meet. A life full of charity has brought me to know the blessing from the Lord. Have you ever helped a person in need and seen the light in there eyes? Its the best feeling I have ever felt. I know that when I forget about myself and apply my talents to help others, I can feel the spirit of the Lord within me. I can testify that loving other people no matter how different or weird they are brings blessings. Next time you are out with friends, invite a loner with you. I know with a full heart that they will be grateful. I know this because I use to be that person until one day a girl extended her friendliness to me. Now I live my life doing the same to others. This is how I live my faith, by loving others and giving all I have to them, because in the end it is all I can take back with me to my Heavenly Father.
