Hi I'm Matt

I am married to a beautiful wife with four awesome boys living in Idaho. I'm also a Mormon. I would have things no other way.

About Me

I am married to a beautiful wife and we have 4 boys, they keep my life busy all of the time. I will soon graduate with a bachelors degree in December of this year. I served a mission in San Jose, California back in the late 90'. I also recently got out of the military, the National Guard to be exact, and for those 6 years I was in really helped me grow up and understand my purpose in life. I do miss that part of my life, but I'm now able to spend so much more time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I recently took a philosophy class in college. A philosophy course could really rack one's brain, confuse them, and even doubt their own religious beliefs. This didn't happen to me. One of the units we covered was Epistemology, or the study of knowledge. To make a long story short over a semesters time period, I determined that when a person stops trying to obtain knowledge, then they have become idle and lazy (some philosophers may disagree with me there). That's where the LDS church stands out above many. When I served a mission, we would invite those we taught to study for themselves. We taught them to pray for themselves. We shared our message, but said it was up to them to find the truth. And believe it or not, each time someone did that sincerely, they felt the spirit and understood the truths we taught and had to desire to come into the fold. With that said, I'm always seeking knowledge and finding that truth associated with it. I'm Mormon because the church empowers me to find out for myself. I'm Mormon because when I study these things I have an overwhelming feeling that what I do study is true. I'm Mormon because my family is the most important thing to me in this world and the church teaches that families are forever and I know that. I'm Mormon because I know there needs to be a prophet on the Earth today; why would the Lord cease to provide those people two thousand years ago. I'm Mormon because I know that Christ just doesn't care about one group of people, he cares about everyone on this Earth as the Book of Mormon is scriptural proof of that. But most importantly I'm Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ is my savior, and I know that only by him and through him can we return to live with my Father in Heaven again. And I know that this is his church, a church that he established and not by man. This is why I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

It is understood that in today's society we are all very busy. I am no different. I work full-time, I go to college, I raise my four boys, and I spend as much free time I have with my wife. So living my faith is difficult because of the lack of time, right? Nope! I try to do it all the time. It is how I try live my life everyday. It's my example I try to utilize. During my 6 years in the military, many people I served with quickly found out I was a member of the church. Not because I declared it to everyone, but because I lived my faith. In an environment that would be so easy to use inappropriate language, justify breaking the word of wisdom, and sacrificing my morality, many people saw how I abstained from those activities and learned about my faith. Though they didn't necessarily agree with my beliefs, they respected them. Not once did I ever have to ask them to clean their language up around me, they did it on their own without really realizing it. With that sort of respect they had for me, I in turn had it for them and it was much easier to lead my squad of soldiers.
