Hi I'm Jeri

I seek to strategically mother our 8 children, serve others, read or write every spare minute, and nap. I love kids!

About Me

As I go throughout the day, I keep a running commentary of the events in my head, slightly fictionalized as though at any moment I might have a chance to sit and write. Mostly I am so busy that I don't have two seconds to rub together. I use humor to survive chaos and catastrophe. Blogging is one of my favorite things, along with letter writing and reading. If I have to choose between laugh and cry, I try to laugh. I have SIX daughters and two sons. The oldest is 17, the youngest is 2. Our family is big into scouting--one is on his way, and the other has earned his Eagle Scout award. If you drop in on me, you'll NEVER find a clean house. If you make an appointment, the same applies. I try to do the most important things each day--this includes family and individual prayer, scripture study, reading, writing and chocolate. Love organizing, hate working in the yard/garden. Have my teaching degree and love to be in front of classroom as a volunteer--I'm a mother and homemaker professionally, though. Love to talk and always have something to say. I find a way to stick my foot in my mouth on a seemingly daily basis. I lean heavily on the Lord to help me raise my kids. I use strategic planning and evaluate our progress constantly. A good book, some chocolate, and a hot bath are my idea of Heaven on Earth.

Why I am a Mormon

It's all about peace. Knowing that Jesus Christ is my Savior, that I am here for a reason, and I know how to have peace. My life has direction and purpose. I feel God's love and guidance every day. I love that there are living Prophets and Apostles, that there is constant revelation. The Book of Mormon strengthens my testimony and knowledge of Christ. The Bible and the Book of Mormon work together to show me how to live. My life is so blessed to have the Priesthood of God--the authority to act in His name--available in my home. Through temple ordinances, I am sealed to my family, and we will be together forever. I'm so thankful to know of God's mercy and love; that all can come to Christ and be saved and exalted.

How I live my faith

I try to treat others as I think that Christ would want me to. Our children are being raised in a home where Mom and Dad love and respect each other, where they are taught that following Jesus Christ brings joy. We pray, study, play, work and laugh together. (And fight like heathens occasionally.) As we've lived and traveled across the country, we've made many friends of many different religions. We try to learn, understand and respect. Want others to see how happy living the gospel of Jesus Christ makes me, and be inspired to seek Him for the same joy and peace. Each day we pray together, search the scriptures, and informally discuss the teachings of Christ. Once a week, I meet with each child individually to encourage, praise, plan, journal, evaluate and set goals, and address any needs. We then study the scriptures through Preach My Gospel, a missionary handbook which beautifully arranges basic gospel principles (This only with the oldest kids.) I hope for each of my children to explore and learn. I want them to think for themselves and gain their own testimonies of the truthfulness of the scriptures and the gospel, to know what they believe and why. I don't want them to blindly follow, but to act because they know and love God.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?
