Hi I'm Laura

I'm a student, an athlete, a flutist, a swim coach, and a teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a currently a college student. I am majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I enjoy music, especially playing the flute. I absolutely love college football and cheering for my college's team. I work as a supplemental instructor through the university, teaching general chemistry II. I spend a lot of my time working out, especially running, swimming, and playing soccer or ultimate frisbee. Besides going to school, teaching and working out, I also play! I go camping and rock climbing. I have tried mountain biking, but that is definitely not one of my strong points. I spend Sunday nights singing and playing music with my friends. I have not yet figured out the guitar... but someday I hope to be able to play. I love life and all of the things that it has to offer.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I will be forever grateful to my parents for raising me according to the teachings of Jesus Christ through His restored gospel. I have been blessed to have parents who are faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord. They have taught me to do the same. However, I had to decide that I want to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for myself. Although my parents raised me to follow the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ, they have not nor can they make me follow the path of righteousness. When I was a senior in high school I, along with others my age, was challenged to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it was true. I cannot lie, I procrastinated completing the task. It was not until the very day that I wasto report on what I had found out, that I really buckled down and studied the scriptures. I remember reading the words that Christ speaks to the people on the American continent, stated in 3rd Nephi in the Book of Mormon. I had an overwhelming feeling of the love that my Heavenly Father has for me as I read what the Savior did for those people. Up until that point I had lived according to the teachings of the gospel because I had seen my parents do so, and I knew the joy that it brought to their lives. But, from that point forward, I have lived according to the teachings of Christ, as revealed through His restored gospel, because I know that Jesus Christ loves me. I know that I am His daughter. I know that He wants me to return to live with Him. I know that He has provideda way for me to return to live with Him. He did this through giving His own life, and through suffering the pains and afflictions that I suffer. I am a member of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I know that I can experience joy through living according to its teachings, just as my parents have done.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. I spend time with the elderly and those who are needy. I help my peers complete their homework, even if I am busy or tired. At church, I am one of the leaders of a committee that plans meetings/activities on Monday nights. These meetings center around teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. The activities that go along with these meetings help us draw nearer to Christ. We either emulate His example by doing service for others, or we learn His teachings through hands-on activities. Another purpose of these Monday night meetings, is to meet together with those of our faith. So, some Mondays we get together simply to be together.
