Hi I'm Mikael

I am married with 4 kids, I go to school part-time, my 2nd child has multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom of 4 kids. My second child has multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness, seizures, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus and much more. She uses a wheelchair and is non-verbal. I started a parent support group for other parents of deaf-blind kids in Utah. I attend college part-time for a degree in residential design and construction management. I am happily married and my husband and I look forward to our weekly date nights. I enjoy being a Mom (most of the time). I never have a clean house, but it's okay because being a good Mom is more important. And really I'm doing the best I can. I enjoy reading (but hardly ever re-read a book I've read before) and cooking. If I had time I would enjoy scrapbooking, sewing and crafting. I have just started digital scrapbooking, I think I'm going to like it! I enjoy shopping, eating-out at new places, being with my girlfriends and traveling to new places. My family enjoys camping. Someday I would like to learn to kayak. I took up running a few years ago, I'm not fast but I enjoy it (at least the races...not so much the training). I have done several half marathons and several 200 mile relays (I was 1 member out of 12 on the relay team). This fall I would like to try a sprint (mini) triathalon.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were "Mormons" and I was raised a "Mormon". But that is not why I continue to be strong in my faith. I had to come to know for myself who I was, what I wanted to be, what was true and God's plan for me. Although I do not claim to have all of the answers, I can tell you that I have found these answers for myself. I have prayed to God, who is literally my Heavenly Father, and have felt his peace and joy from the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit). I know that this church is true. I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. I know that Joseph Smith restored Christ's true church to the earth in these latter days. I know that the Book of Mormon are words from God, given to guide us in these days. I believe that there is a prophet on the earth today. Just like Moses or Noah in the Bible. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has brought happiness to me and my family. By living righteously (not perfect--but trying) the Holy Ghost can direct my life for good.

How I live my faith

I previously helped in my congregation by serving as Cub Master for the cubscouts in the Boy Scouts of America Program. The cubscout program is for all denominations for boy ages 8-12. It helps them explore the world around them, make good choices to help them grow into responsible young men. I did that for 4 years. I now help on a committee which plans the luncheons for the families when someone in our congregation passes away. My husband is in the leadership over our whole congregation. This is an unpaid position. I support him in his desire to help those around us. I started a community group to support families who have a child with Deaf-Blindness (someone who is both deaf and blind) in Utah. We send email messages back and forth, and have dinners together. We also have a directory of all the families we have been able locate in Utah with a child with deaf-blindness. This has been up and running for about 5 years now. I think the main way I live my faith is just trying to be a good person and a good example. Living as Jesus would. Such as helping those around me and teaching my children to be responsible citizens.
