Hi I'm Chris

I'm an academic, an arm chair philosopher, a surgeon, and I think having 5 kids is ordinary.

About Me

I'm a cancer surgeon. I'm a father of 5 and husband of one wonderful woman. My wife deserves the moon for her patience and love during our first 13 years of marriage when we were struggling through school and training. I love ideas, books and friends. The outdoors call to me and you'll often find our family, hiking, climbing, canoeing, observing, photographing, running, swimming, biking, traveling through this beautiful world God created for us.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe in truth. I have been told that you don't have to believe anything that isn't true in this church. I believe that God asks us all to find out for ourselves the truth. I believe that he invites us to listen and to learn and then to search for Him in prayer. I'm a Mormon because the gospel of Jesus Christ teaches me how to be a more productive member of society, a better husband and father and even a better cancer surgeon. I'm a Mormon because the values taught daily are those that give me strength and direction in a sometimes seemingly pointless world.

How I live my faith

I believe that I don't always have the big picture. I rely on God for a greater perspective. As I stand on top of a mountain, I feel so good, so free. The wind rushes over me and the sounds of the hurried earth below are hardly perceptible atop the mountain. Things seem clear in those high places and the worries from below seem so minor and passing. I move forward trusting that God has the big picture and when I put my trust in him, my life will be fuller than I could have orchestrated on my own.
