Hi I'm Melanie

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Idaho. I teach junior high. I love to read, watch movies, play volleyball, and snowboard.

About Me

I graduated from college two years ago and was blessed to get hired teaching junior high in Boise. It's very challenging but also rewarding. I love to be involved in a lot of different things. To name a few: volleyball, (coaching and playing) choir, snowboarding, sewing, hiking, going to movies, and hanging out with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Hmm...the first answer that comes to my mind is because i was born into the church to Mormon parents. But it's more than that. As I've grown older and had my own life experiences, I've had the opportunity to gain my own testimony and reasons for continuing to be a Mormon. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I know that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world, that he atoned for my individual sins and that through him, I can return to live with my loving Heavenly Father again. By following the commandments and living according to the doctrines and principles of the church, I have been truly happy and have a healthy, peaceful, and more fulfilling life. Being obedient to the commandments doesn't hold me down, it sets me free. I am free from addiction, debt, unwanted pregnancies, or anything else that could come from living a life and making decisions that are not in harmony with the gospel teachings. My life isn't perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination. I am not perfect. I have trials and troubles; there are sleepless nights and tear-stained pillowcases and broken hearts, just like everyone else. However, I do believe that God loves me. He knows me by name and sent his Son to earth to atone for my sins and sorrows, and through him I can live forever and be happy in this life and in eternity. I have been blessed with so many wonderful experiences and good people in my life that have helped my faith grow and shaped me into the person that I am today. I feel privileged and honored to be able to serve a mission and teach others about where we came from, why we are here, where we are going, and how they can be happy too.

How I live my faith

I currently attend a local singles' ward. It is so much fun! I am currently serving in the presidency of the women's organization. I also sing in the ward choir, which is directed by one of my very good friends. Occasionally I help out by playing the organ or leading the music in our Sunday services. It's important for me to be involved, especially because I live far from my parent's home. As a young single adult, being a Mormon and associating with other Mormons helps me make friends and feel like I have a place to belong. The big news is that two days ago from writing this, I just opened my mission call!!!! I will be leaving in June to serve in Chicago for 18 months. I am so excited! I'm nervous, but I know this is the right decision and I cannot wait to get out there and start sharing this news with the good people of Chicago.
