Hi I'm Melonie

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up Southern Baptist and now I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a school bus driver and part-time secretary for a landscape company. A single parent with two teenage children. On March 26, 2011 I was baptized, the next day confirmed and now living my life on the straight and narrow path which is pleasing to Him.

Why I am a Mormon

In February, 2011 my friend Stacy invited me to church. I knew that she was Mormon and witnessed a joy in Stacy that I wanted in my life. At the time, my life seemed to be spiraling out of control with an alcoholic abusive husband who lost his job again and two teen children. After 17 years of marriage, my husband left and my children and I were on our own. God had a plan and it was coming together. My children and I moved into a decent home in a neighborhood across the street from my son’s school and my work. The first week, Stacy told me that she and the missionaries were coming over. As soon as I opened the door for them, I felt a sense of love and calm that still to this day I feel when they are in my presence. That was just the beginning. 2-3 days a week the missionaries and Stacy visited with me and my son Luke. We prayed, read the Book of Mormon and they taught the truth of the scripture. “Read, pray and ponder” they would say. One evening before the missionaries arrived, Stacy and I were talking about the recent disaster in Japan and how it saddened us. That same night I had a dream. I was in the midst of a disaster like that in Japan. With only my birth certificate, social security card and a bank statement, I boarded a bus to a safe haven. I was unsure of my future, where my children were and frightened amongst the chaos, panic and pandemonium. I woke shaken and in tears. It was 30 minutes before I had to get up and get ready to drive a school bus. I immediately prayed and then began to read scripture. Moroni 9 verse 22. “But behold, my son, I recommend thee unto God, and I trust in Christ that thou wilt be saved and I pray unto God that he will spare thy life, to witness the return of his people unto him, or their utter destruction for I know that they must perish except they repent and return unto him.” From that point on, I knew the truth and made a commitment to become baptized and live a covenant relationship with Christ.

How I live my faith

I continue to live by faith and obedience to the Lord by attending church at the Milton Ward, taking of sacrament, Sunday school and participation in a group for women called Relief Society. I visited the new Atlanta Temple twice and continue to invite the missionaries to my home for dinner and bible study. My recent calling in Relief Society as part of the Meeting Committee is something I look forward to. Also, I'm involved in visiting teaching with a companion. I share with my non-church member friends the joy and excitement of my experience as a Mormon.
