Hi I'm Laura

I'm a mom. I run marathons and love to cook healthy food. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Besides being a mom to beautiful kids, running is my passion. I started running marathons when I was 17 and haven't stopped since. I love to be outside enjoying my surroundings and at the same time keeping myself healthy and fit. Often my kids come with me in my faithful double stroller and we go for miles, and they love it. My health is so important to me, I never want to put things in my body that will hurt it. I want my kids to learn to be healthy and strong and take care of their bodies. I love to take recipes and "healthify" them so that we receive the most benefit from them as a family. I feel that my drive to be healthy and active helps me to be the best mother and wife. My family is the most important to me. I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but took it for granted for many years. It wasn't until my junior year in high school, after learning a few lessons the hard way that I realized what the gospel of Jesus Christ truly means. As I began to internalize what I had been taught my whole life, my life began to change and I was so happy! My spirit that had been desiring the truth and good right in front of me, could now break through and soak up the light that was right under my nose. At about the same time a friend of mine, who later became my husband, talked me into joining the cross country team. I had never really run before but running quickly became my passion. Most of all I feel like running strengthened my spirit and my relationship with the Savior. I would often pray as I ran for miles and I still do that today. Problems haven't ceased in my life, but through the help of the Lord and our long conversations, I have become more able the handle them with his help.

How I live my faith

As I have treasured up the words of the scriptures, taken care of the body that the Lord has entrusted me with and developed my relationship with Him, I have found great joy in my roll as a wife, as a mother, and as a missionary. I served as a full-time missionary for the church (my husband and I served as missionaries at the same time, all the while hoping that if we gave our all in the service of the Lord, things would work out for us, and they did.) I have worked with the young children in the church for the past five years and loved every minute!!! These children truly are so close to our Savior and I feel that if He came to church, He would be with the children too! We can learn so much from the simple and unclouded faith of these little ones. I love to teach the simple principles of the gospel, and do all the I can to live by them. I have been truly blessed for it. I am a Mormon.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The word of wisdom is a law of health that God has given us, his children. He has blessed us with the stewardship over a body of flesh and bone that we get to and need to take care of. Following the word of wisdom will help us do just that! The word of wisdom tells us that if we refrain from things like tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illegal drugs, our minds clear, and our bodies will be clean. Test it for yourself. Take a leap of faith! I know you will find this to be true just as I have. The word of wisdom was given from God to man at a time when there was little to nothing known about health and wellness. Fast forward 150 years and science has proven these things to be true! Following the word of wisdom has helped me to be healthy, strong, and able to have self control. I am a marathon runner and I know that following the word of wisdom helps me every day! Show more Show less
