Hi I'm James

I grew up in San Diego, CA. I am a law student, a husband, and a father. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a law student in San Diego, CA. I got married in January 2008 to my wonderful and beautiful wife, Jamie (Boyd). We have a son, who is just over 18 months, and we have a daughter due in a few weeks. I have actively attended this church since birth. I served a mission in Paraguay from December 2003 to December 2005. Besides being with my family, I love to surf, play sports, and go to the gym. However, I don't get to do anything of those things too often since I spend most of my time studying. I have about two years left of law school, and I can't wait until it's over. I guess that's about it. I try to keep things simple.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a "Mormon" because this is what makes sense to me. The Gospel answers my questions about life, and it provides the best guide for how to have a purposeful experience while on Earth. I know that the teachings of this church are true because I have had too many experiences and feelings to ever be able to deny it. While almost all of us have to live by faith, I feel that I can accurately and truly say that there is no doubt in my mind that I belong to Jesus Christ's church. While there are people who were Mormon but left the church or people who never were Mormon but who will swear to their deaths that this church is absolutely false, these people almost inevitably rely on what someone else has told them or what some person claims to be evidence that the church is false. I, however, have chosen to rely on my own impressions, on my own prayers, on my own study of the scriptures and history, on my own conclusions about what the Church teaches, and on my feelings when I put the invitations and teachings of the Church to the test. That's why I'm a Mormon. The more I learn about the doctrine, the stronger my testimony gets. There is no other religion that can offer the same.

How I live my faith

I attend church meetings every Sunday. I read scriptures and pray daily. I strive to obey God's commandments at all times. I try to show love and kindness to those around me. I go throughout the day thinking about how the Gospel applies to what I am currently doing and if there's something I should be doing better. I work towards shaping my character around the principles and teachings of the Gospel.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

The being who can redeem us from our fallen state is Jesus Christ since only He could take upon Himself our sins. God chose Joseph Smith to be the first prophet in this latter period of the Earth's existence. The Bible teaches that God consistently called prophets to whom God would reveal His secrets Amos 37, and through these men, God could organize His people to be taught and instructed for their growth and to make it possible for them enter into God's kingdom. God utilized Joseph Smith for this purpose. This was no easy task, and this is why, generally speaking, we so highly esteem Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
