Hi I'm Kent

I am a husband and a father. I study, teach and take pictures of the Cosmos. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 7 children and was raised in Northern California. I served an LDS mission in Buenos Aires Argentina and came home to marry my childhood sweetheart. We have 6 wonderful children. I was a dentist for 21 years, but was forced to look elsewhere for a profession due to health reasons. I decided to look up. I now teach astronomy at a University in Utah and take photographs of the Cosmos. I continue to be filled with a sense of awe and wonder as I explore our home, the Universe. (See blog link to view images) 6 years ago I lost my sweetheart in a terrible automobile accident. I almost lost my life as well. This time was the hardest of my life. Since then I have learned much about the love and kindness of God and the love and kindness of others around me. I have remarried a wonderful woman. While I was teaching in China recently I told my students that I now have 12 children since remarrying. They just about fainted!

Why I am a Mormon

I have read the Bible many times. I have read the Book of Mormon many times. These two books have helped me come to know Jesus Christ. While I read these books, the spirit of God witnessed to my heart that Jesus Christ lives and loves me. As I read and prayed about the Book of Mormon, I felt the spirit of God witness to me that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. This witness was profound. I have felt it many times since. I am a Mormon because I love to serve. Christ taught us to serve and I have found that I am happier when I am serving. The church provides many opportunities for service. Obviously this yearning to serve is not unique to members of the LDS church. I have served with people of all faiths in many different environments. I love to rub shoulders with them and to learn from them. I have served with others in the jungles of Guatemala, the Andes of Peru, the villages of Tonga and the orphanages of Mexico. I am a Mormon because I love to learn. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is filled with knowledge that blesses our lives. I am a Mormon because the Gospel, as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has helped me draw close to my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. I love them with all my heart.

How I live my faith

I can tell you what I am trying to do. I am trying to live my life in a way that is honest and true. I am trying to live my life with a greater abundance of love. I am trying to share with others, what I feel is being extended to me each day of my life…kindness, forgiveness, understanding and love. I feel God’s love in my heart profoundly. It makes me want to follow Him, to obey Him, to love Him and to come home to Him. I am far from perfect in this quest, but I have come to understand something of the hope that comes from the atonement of Jesus Christ. He can help me be better than I am. He forgives my mistakes. I love Him. I want to follow him. He is the source and object of my faith.
