Hi I'm Jan

I am a wife and mother. I love the outdoors, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife and a mother and I enjoy these roles in my life more than anything. I also enjoy my job at a high school, where I get to interact with young people every day. I love to cook, especially for friends and family. I enjoy water sports, snow skiing, and biking. Camping and hiking have always been favorite summertime activities for me and my family. I love to be out in nature. I'm so grateful to live in Utah, close to the mountains, making it possible to do all of these things that I love. I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love family traditions, especially those around the holidays. One of my favorite past traditions was that of cutting down a Christmas tree on Thanksgiving weekend. We, as a family enjoyed doing that for many years. We would bundle up, pack a lunch and hot chocolate, take a saw, grab the sleds, and head up to the hills. We would spend hours hiking around, oftentimes in the snow, trying to find the perfect tree. This was done with my parents, my 6 brothers and their wives and children, and my husband and children. There were snowball fights, a campfire, building snowmen, and a little friendly competition to find the best tree. My very favorite thing is laughing and enjoying time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family with parents who taught me how to live the gospel. I was baptized by my father when I was 8 years old. When I was a teenager I started to question the truthfulness of the gospel - so I read the Book of Mormon and followed Moroni's challenge to pray to know the truth for myself. I had a warm feeling enter my heart as I prayed to know the truth. I also heard a voice whisper to me that I have always known the gospel to be true and that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I'm grateful for this knowledge and that I am given direction on how to live in a way that will help me to be happy. When I am keeping the commandments and trying to do what is right, I feel the spirit in my life. I wouldn't ever want to live without it. I also know that through the covenants I've made with my Heavenly Father and by striving to live worthy of those covenants, I can return to live with Him again.

How I live my faith

I serve in the church and try to fulfill my callings in a way that will hopefully please my Father in Heaven. I am currently serving as the Compassionate Service Leader in the Relief Society. I am learning so much from the women who struggle with different challenges. I gain so much strength from those who so readily serve those in need. It always amazes me that within minutes of sending out an email for a request for a few meals to be taken to someone in need, I have more than enough volunteers to fill the need. Service is at the core of our religion as Mormons. We strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I'm so grateful to be a part of such a great organization and for the opportunities to serve that my membership in the church affords me.
