Hi I'm Julie

I'm a full-time mom and former massage therapist with a BA in Linguistics. I love life and my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy everything--reading the classics, singing, playing guitar (very poorly!), sewing & knitting, gardening, baking bread, wood-working with my husband & watching my 4 boys while they're in their element--outside getting dirty, discovering new things. I'm always looking for new hobbies to keep my brain busy and learning. I've lived in the midwest, on the east and west coasts, and now in the south. I love talking politics and learning more about the world around us. I love learning about languages (though I only speak English, Russian, and a little French and Spanish), and believe music is the universal language. I served a mission in Ukraine after I joined the church, completed massage school in 1999 and earned a BA from BYU in 2002. I have been married to an incredible man, Todd Kinghorn, since 2002, and we've had 4 crazy boys and a ton of challenges and blessings.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have a testimony of the gospel plan. A new friend, who now means the world to me, introduced me to the church while living in Boston, Mass. I didn't think I needed it, and definitely wasn't interested in being a baptized member of the LDS Church. I know now that the Lord knows me better than I know myself, and knew what I needed long l"before I thought to ask." I know in my heart that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet, and that there is a prophet on the earth today, led by Jesus Christ, who leads and guides those who will heed his voice. Being a "Mormon" has made me a better person, by leaps and bounds, than I used to be, just by trying to apply the gospel doctrines to my own life, and by helping my children to learn about Christ. I'm far from perfect, but there is hope in progress! I don't want to find myself bound eternally by internal and external challenges that I know would hold me back if I did not commit to myself to live the promises I have made to the Lord. It gives me strength, empowers me, to know that I am a daughter of God, and He will be merciful and forgive us of our weaknesses through Christ, and has given us the teachings and tools that we need for happiness not only after this life, but during this life as well.

How I live my faith

I have lived as a member of this church since June of 1994, and though it can be difficult at times to constantly be reevaluating who I am, and how I can be a better person, mother, wife, and more like our Savior, the struggles are definitely worth it. We have an eternal destiny, and this life is our time to learn and serve and find our testimony in the Lord, and happiness as a result, in all that we do. I'm grateful for opportunities to serve in so many different ways. I've worked with the women, young women, and children at church, was blessed to plan music for church, and currently am blessed to work with JustServe, helping people get out into the community to serve, and helping organizations to reach out to those volunteers. I believe in reaching out and performing random acts of kindness, and by simply treating others as I would like to be treated--with respect, honesty, and by being nonjudgmental. I am most happy when I am serving, in and outside of the Church.
