Hi I'm Alyssa

I grew up in Utah and Georgia. I am an artist. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a middle child and left handed. I love collecting piggy banks, journals, and scarves. I love reading my scriptures and finding inspirational and memorable quotes. I love children and worked as a day care teacher with two year olds. I have been married for almost a year. I love art, learning, and the gospel. I am attending BYU-I with aspirations to become an Art Therapist. My personal goal is to one day paint a mural in one of the temples.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church, though, that doesn't mean I don't have a conversion story. I went through the motions of being baptized at eight and going to church because that is what everyone did. My personal conversion moment would be when I was given a notebook in Young Woman's at the age of twelve. We were told to take notes on lessons, which I started doing. I then began to take notes in sacrament, and it has been an on going process til this day. I not only take notes during sacrament, sunday school, general conference, broadcasts, and institute, but every spiritual interaction I have through out my days. I keep a small notebook with me wherever I go to jot down any thoughts or impressions I have. I also started keeping a journal around that time in my life and I haven't stopped writing since. Record keeping is my passion and I have come to love that this gospel emphasizes the importance of keeping a record. I know this gospel is true. I have never doubted it. Any doubt in my mind came from the knowledge that I am an ordinary human being and therefore subject to succumbing to temptations. Christ is my light. Christ is my everything. He lives. He loves me. He wants me to be happy.

How I live my faith

I am a Peer Advisor at BYU-Idaho and have the opportunity to help students discover and create their career paths, set their priorities in order, and learn how to gain the best education possible. I am also in the Primary Presidency in my married student ward and have the opportunity to share my testimony with the children we teach every Sunday.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Alyssa
The Family: A Proclamation to the World outlines the roles of parents in the family beautifully when it says "Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. ... Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." Husbands and fathers have a responsibility to preside, provide, and protect the family, while wives and mothers are to nurture. To preside does not mean that husbands are to control or dictate but to use the Lord's power to bring the Spirit into everything he does. Husbands and wives "are obligated to help one another as equal partners." We must work together to create an atmosphere that would be conducive to the Spirit and the Lord. Show more Show less
