Hi I'm Sam

I was born and raised in Boise, ID. I love my wife. I am a father of 4 kids. I love the Idaho outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married and love my wife and 4 children. I have been involved in sports since an early age and now enjoy coaching my kids in various sports that they participate in. I love to go camping and backpacking and especially whitewater rafting. Cliffjumping often accompanies the rafting trips and just being in the great outdoors is something I relish. I have stood atop Idaho's tallest peak and have also scurried and slithered through Idaho's lava tube caves deep under ground. Rock climbing and repelling are hobbies I enjoy and although I don't do them often I do enjoy the thrill that comes from a protected descent down the side of a cliff. I enjoy skiing in the winter as well as snow sledding with my family. I am not an avid reader and if given the choice between reading the book and watching the movie, I would take the movie option. Wakeboarding and bike riding are activities I enjoy with my family as well as playing hide and go seek and other games inside the house with my wife and kids. I love the sound of a thunderstorm and the smell of a summers rain as it cools the ground. I served a mission in El Salvador and participated in a service expedition to Guatemala sveral years later. I love the feeling I get from serving others and try each day to be a good example to my children and others.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family who is active in the church. My mother was as well but my father was a convert at the age of 19. I always had a good feeling when attending church and really developed my own testimony during my teenage years prior to serving a mission. I love the teachings on the family that are found in the church as well as the teachings of the eternal nature of families. I love the church's stance on drugs and alcohol called the "Word Of Wisdom" and also am truly grateful for a living modern day prophet. I have read the Book of Mormon and find it's teachings to be consitent with the Bible. They are both books of scripture written by prophets and they both testify of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I find that being a member of the church pushes me to be a better man than I would be otherwise. It gives me healthy boundaries to stay within and by doing so I stay free from potentially self damaging situations. Trying to be like Jesus is not easy but if I am always striving to be a little better today than I was yesterday then I consider it an accomplishment.

How I live my faith

I enjoy serving in the church. I live my faith behind closed doors in the privacy of my own home as well as in the public eye of my community. I have served in the church in various capacities. A few of which include; I have been a teacher of young children, a scout leader in the church supported Boy Scouts of America program, as well as one who endeavored to teach English as a second language to members of the Spanish speaking community where I live. I currently serve as a bishop in the church and enjoy the opportunity of serving the members of the ward over which I have been called to preside. I attend church regularly, every Sunday, because partaking of the sacrament is an important part of my week. It reminds me of the promises I have made to my Heavenly Father and of the blessings I can receive if I am faithful to Him in keeping those promises. I feel like I am part of a bigger family than just my own when I attend church and we often refer to our ward as a "ward family." The greatest thing I get from living my faith is the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. The 3rd member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost influences me for good and confirms truth when it is taught. The knowlege I have of my Savior Jesus Christ is a great blessing of belonging to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Coming to know what Jesus Christ has done for me and that because of His atoning sacrifice I can return and live with my Heavenly Father is the greatest knowlege that I can have. That knowlege drives me day to day and is the reason I do what I do and live how I live.
