Hi I'm Heather

I'm a freelance writer. My Christmas season lasts from September to January. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to paint with watercolors, to write (anything from grocery lists to young adult fiction to scholarly essays), and to decorate wedding cakes and elaborate gingerbread houses. It took me the better part of two decades to finish my bachelor's degree in English, but I love education and therefore enjoyed the journey. My four kids and my redheaded husband are the center of my universe; we read books together, have family concerts, go on picnics, and make trips to Disneyland whenever we can!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both members of this church, so I grew up learning what the gospel teaches. But when I was a teenager, I had a lot of questions. I knew people who were dear to me who had suffered a great deal, and I didn't understand why God would let them go through such hard times. I began to earnestly read the scriptures and pray for understanding and guidance. It took a number of months, but when I was seventeen, God gave me a very personal and powerful witness that He was listening, that He was real, and that what I had been taught was true. I am a better wife, mother, sister, and neighbor for believing in Jesus Christ and in His gospel. And when I make mistakes, I can apologize, forgiven, and seek forgiveness from my Savior.

How I live my faith

I am a Wolf den leader for the Boy Scouts of America, and I really enjoy working with the boys in developing character and learning important life skills in that program. I also visit some of the other ladies in our congregation to check up on them and share messages of faith and encouragement. I appreciate that what I learn at church encourages me to live with perfect honesty, to work hard and be excellent at whatever I do, to love those around me, and to make family my first priority.
