Hi I'm Sam

I'm from Arizona. I served a mission in Alaska. I am a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 4 kids in my family. I grew up seeing the good examples of my parents and siblings. I really look up to them for their advice and council. I was active in sports and clubs during high school and I love to stay busy. I served a mission for the Church in Alaska. Interestingly enough, I was called, or assigned, to teach the gospel in Spanish. I relied greatly on the help of the Lord so that I could speak Spanish. I love to serve others because true happiness comes from serving others, just at the Savior served others. I am attending Brigham Young University, studying Civil Engineering with a minor in Business Management. I love to play golf, go bowling, run, exercise, swim and enjoy the environment around me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and always felt good about the things that were taught. I am a Mormon because I believe that God is our loving Heavenly Father. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior and Redeemer. God also called prophets to teach us and to help us know how the follow the Savior. Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet in our day and Thomas S. Monson is the living prophet today. I agree with this doctrine. I know I am not perfect but I know that I need to give my best efforts to follow the Savior. I know that God wants each and every one of us to make good decisions and to repent when we make not so good decisions. When I was in high school, I learned a great lesson from the Book of Mormon that has changed me since. I remember reading through Mosiah chapter 18 about baptism. Alma's words about the covenant, or the promise, we make at baptism is special and sacred between us and God. I determined that I would want to live up to the promises I made at baptism. The following day at school, we learned that a classmate had died in an accident over the weekend. We were all saddened by this news. I felt peace by knowing that our spirits live after death. I wanted to help and to comfort my friends and fellow classmates, but I didn't really know what to do. The thought came that I needed to "be willing to bear one another's burdens...and...mourn with those that mourn...and comfort those that stand in need of comfort..." As I reached out to my friends, they were eventually comforted. We all could feel peace and we could continue on with life. I can't recall every instance that God has reached out to me but I know that He is there and He loves us.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. I feel good when I serve others and I know God designed it to be that way. As I attend church, I do my best to be ready and willing to help out in any way possible. When I don’t have a specific job or responsibility to do while attending church, I try to reach out to others. I've found that many people need someone to help lift them up. I try to keep myself ready to help another. I also do my best to read the scriptures and strengthen my testimony, or my personal conviction, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer. I like to listen to books on CD or talks on CD so that I can hear and learn from the testimony of others. The Ensign magazine, published by the Church, is also a great resource to strengthening my testimony that the gospel has blessed many others and it can help me too. I have the Mormon Channel app on my phone and I enjoy listening to that during the day. Putting time aside for reading the scriptures and having meaningful prayer has the power to chance the course of my day. Life just seems a little bit easier to navigate when I've been in the time to read from the scriptures, even if it for a little bit of time.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is convincing evidence that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins and He was actually resurrected. The Book of Mormon was prepared by God to be a second witness to the Bible That Jesus Christ is the Son of God and we can recieve the blessings of the gospel through obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon was written by many ancient American prophets and translated by Joseph Smith by the gift and power of God. It was written and translated under inspiration. Anyone who wants to learn of Jesus Christ's role as Savior and Redeemer should thoughtfully and prayerfully read the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

The Priesthood is the power and authority given to God's children at act in His name. With the Priesthood, blessings can be given, sacred ordinances can be performed for the salvation of God's children and the influences of Satan can be lessened. Those who receive the Priesthood must live in such a way that they can qualify to use it. Righteous living can increase the effectiveness of the Priesthood, while disobedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ will cause the heavens to close to the Priesthood holder. The Priesthood has blessed me in my life as I have been able to serve others and be the recipient of Priesthood service. The Priesthood is a power on the earth that is here to help and benefit God's children. Show more Show less
