Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a current premedical student at my university, a sports fan, a husband, a soon-to-be father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently, I am a senior in college where I am preparing somewhat desperately to go to medical school. To reach my goal I have shadowed doctors, worked in a hospital and a retinal clinic, volunteered at various institutions, done clinical research with a transplant surgeon, presented research at a medical conference, and devoted countless hours in studying for my courses. I believe God has blessed me with each of these opportunities, and I pray He will bless me ultimately to get into medical school. I want to go to medical school so I can train to become a physician and perform life-improving research in order to help better the health of people all over the world. My greatest joy in this life comes from my relationship with my wife, who is only a few months from giving birth to our first child! The ultrasound technician said that our baby is a girl but we will see if that holds true . Together my wife and I love to cook and eat any delicious food except I despise water chestnuts and ketchup, reading the scriptures together, socializing with family and friends, exercising, playing sports except tennis, my wife can't stand that I can beat her , and traveling. I love spending time with her and am excited and a bit terrified to welcome our first child into this world. I know God is helping me to reach my potential as a husband and He will help me to reach my potential as a father. I also love sports, anything outdoors, chess, reading, and playing the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

The reason I am a Mormon comes down to what brings me lasting satisfaction and where I learn eternal truths. When I was between the ages of 12 and 16, sadly the number one priority in my life was soccer. I dreamed of playing for Manchester United, one of the most famous soccer teams in the world and devoted countless hours in playing soccer to reach that goal. During these years my relationship with God was weak. I was not praying or reading the scriptures, and I was selfish. Having grown up in a family that worshiped God and taught me about His gospel, I knew what it was like to have the Holy Ghost. I could feel during those years that I did not have His Spirit with me because of my choices. I realized that a life devoted to soccer and selfish interests was not a satisfactory one. I wanted to change, be nearer to my Heavenly Father, and be forgiven of my sins. At this time I was challenged to read the Book of Mormon by the then-President of the LDS church, President Gordon B. Hinckley. I took this challenge to heart and began reading every night after I would finish my homework and in my car before school began. This changed my life - it gave me the spiritual strength I needed to repent and a whole new perspective on what is really important. I came to know that God loved me and was my literal Father of my spirit. I asked Him if the Book of Mormon was true and He told me it was through the Holy Ghost. As I felt forgiven of my sins and tasted of the joy that the Atonement of Jesus Christ provides, I came to know without a doubt that Jesus is my Savior. These days, having served a full-time mission for the LDS church, been married in the temple and now expecting my first child, I recognize that I have been greatly blessed by God because He is merciful and because I chose to follow Him and His Son. I am grateful I read the Book of Mormon, and came to know of the eternal truths unique to the LDS chruch. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to live my Faith on a daily basis, by paying attention to obeying to all of God's commandments. Being in no way perfect, I am very aware of my weaknesses and faults. I still have much to learn and much to improve as an individual and member of a family. Daily scripture study and prayer is essential for me, because I can feel the difference in the Spirit I have on days when I study and pray sincerely and on days when I do not. I also love learning more about God's gospel and plan for me, which can be found in the scriptures and words of the prophets. Showering my wife with love and serving her however I can is a necessary part of living my Faith. I believe with all my heart that we have been sealed together for eternity, and that after we die we will still be together to learn and progress as husband and wife and children of God. I love her and want to be with her forever. Because of this, I want her to be with me forever as well! Making sure we communicate, work together to reach personal, companionship, spiritual, academic, and professional goals, and nurture the love we have for each other are vital parts of my happiness and Faith. I try to serve others as best I can by being a good friend and fulfilling my church responsibilities, which right now means teaching the little children in my church about Christ and the scriptures. I also try to serve my brothers and sisters by going to the temple to do work for those who died without the gospel of Jesus Christ. Again, I reiterate that I am not even near perfect in any of these areas, and I have a long way to go in this life and in the life after. But I am always trying! And I will always try to try with a smile
