Hi I'm Barry

I'm a happy husband and father of eight. I'm a graphic designer and a recording artist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in Northwest Washington by an Idaho farmboy-turned-dentist and an Idaho farmgirl-turned-nurse-turned-homemaker. I have four kind brothers and sisters. I served a mission in Québec, Canada, but my French is pretty rusty now. I met my wonderful wife at Brigham Young University and we have eight children. I work as a freelance graphic designer, and I also sing and write inspirational music. I'm a vocal recording artist and an inspirational speaker. I love to communicate ideas through words, images, and music. I enjoy designing book covers, CD covers and web sites. I like to fish, hike and camp. I like making and eating huge sandwiches. When I find a good book I have a hard time putting it down. My wife and I have four boys and four girls who keep us very busy. I enjoy serving in the Church.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church and learned the gospel of Jesus Christ through the example and teachings of great parents and church leaders. As a teenager I studied the Bible and the Book of Mormon thoroughly and was convinced of their truthfulness through prayer and experience. My testimony has been developed and strengthened by countless small experiences where I have felt God's hand in my life through the promptings of the Holy Ghost. As a missionary and a gospel teacher I have seen firsthand how the goodness and truth of the principles taught in the Church change lives and make people happy. I have also seen the sadness that comes when we choose to break God's commandments. I am a Mormon because I see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the original church established by Jesus Christ, restored on the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

My first priority in living my faith is seeking to be a good and honorable husband. I spend time with my wife and work together with her as my equal partner at home. Next in line are my responsibilities as a father. I lead my family in family prayer and family scripture study and try to teach by example how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. I have worked with teenage boys in Scouting and in helping them become future husbands, fathers and good citizens. I teach little children to enjoy music, leading them in singing each Sunday. I'm learning how to lead our congregation's choir. I visit a handful of families in our neighborhood for whom I have responsibility, to make sure they're doing well and help them when needed. I have taught Sunday School to youth and adults. I have served in local United Way organizations. I have helped organize community classes on U.S. Constitutional principles. I seek to be informed about national and worldwide events and support organizations that defend marriage and family. I write to my governmental representatives in support of principles I believe in. In my work, whether in design or music, I try to promote truth and virtue.
