Hi I'm Devon DeRosier

I love taking time to notice the simple beauty in the world around me. I love music, I'm a work in progress, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering. I have grown up loving music, and I enjoy being able to share that love by singing and playing music with and for people. The second oldest of the children in my family, I have three brothers and a sister and a mother and father who love me despite having to put up with my rebellious teenage years! I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I did choir every year of high school, and I even did some musical theatre. I once played in a band with a few college friends; I had the opportunity to sing and play rhythm guitar, so I had lots of fun! Hopefully, I will be able to do more with music in the future. Though I love performing, my ambition is to obtain a master's degree in Electrical Engineering and find a career where I can help design medical electronics that will make treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation an easier and more comfortable process.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon is hard. Any member of the church will tell you that, but even so, choosing to follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this way has been so worth it. My life has been a rough road. Riddled with mistakes and addictions, my life had periods where it felt like a burden I just couldn't bear. There have been times when I have wanted nothing more than to die, go to Hell, and be done with it, but my Heavenly Father, in His infinite wisdom, allowed me to live and suffer through. When I finally learned to turn myself over to Him, I learned that even when I feel I am most alone, He is always waiting right there for me. I am a Mormon because I know that the only way to find true happiness in life is through giving myself to Heavenly Father and doing His will. If we take the time to slow down and find the good we can do in the world, we will find so much more satisfaction and joy even when the trials start to pile on top of us. Yes, life is hard, but with Him, life is so good.

How I live my faith

"If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." I try to make this phrase a part of my life every day. I try to live in such a way that people notice that I am happy with my life. In a world full of turmoil and trials, this isn't as common as we may think. I want others to find the happiness that I was able to find. I know there are many people in the world who are struggling with the same or similar things that I have gone through, and my wish is that I will be able to reach out and point them in the right direction when they need me. Currently, I am serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I am so excited to help people to find the happiness that I enjoy every day!

What is the Law of Chastity?

Devon DeRosier
The Law of Chastity is a blessing from Heavenly Father; it is the only way for men and women to draw emotionally and spiritually closer to their loved-one. The Law of Chastity is God's commandment that we only share and experience powerful sexual feelings and emotions in the bonds of marriage between a man and a woman. Through the Law of Chastity, families can have happiness and the strength and closeness that comes from a relationship that is supported by our Heavenly Father. By obedience to this law, we can be free of the physical diseases and emotional pain that comes from the unfaithful use of sexual intimacy. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Devon DeRosier
The temple is a place where we can escape the confusing influences of the world and find peace. It has been set apart as a home for all things beautiful, sacred, and pure, and we can feel close to God, our Heavenly Father, as we go to worship and serve Him there. Because of the sacred nature of the temple, only those who are faithfully striving to keep the commandments and promises they have made with Heavenly Father are able to go inside. In the temple, we receive ordinances such as Eternal marriage (sealings) and make promises with Heavenly Father. We also serve those who were not able to receive the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ by providing ordinances, such as baptism and sealings, for them by standing in their place and receiving those ordinances in their name. This allows all people the chance to have the Eternal blessings Heavenly Father has made available to all of His children whether or not they were able to receive them in this life. The ordinances we receive in the temple are not secret, but they are sacred; they should not be taken lightly or discussed carelessly. Because of this, we only speak of them in the proper time and place, such as in the temple. All men and women everywhere are invited to come closer to Christ so they may also have the blessings that Heavenly Father has made available to all of His children in His temples. Show more Show less
