Hi I'm Amy!

I'm a curly red-head with eleven siblings. I run for fun and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love people, outdoors, and excellent memories. Oh yes - and good food. I also enjoy running and biking and want to continually be learning and exploring. I served a mission to Argentina and shortly after, completed my undergraduate in Exercise Science with minors in Spanish and Nutrition. I then flew to Taiwan and got to teach English to preschoolers - which was EXCELLENT! I loved working with the kids and gained a greater appreciation for ALL teachers. I have recently moved back to the U.S. and am currently working as a substitute teacher and preparing to get a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Secondary Spanish.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up LDS and always felt good at church and at home. But! I also knew at some point I had to know for myself these things were true. About a month before my 15th birthday I decided to read the Book of Mormon with this specific purpose. As I read I began to change. I found myself kinder and more thoughtful. I especially saw this with my younger brothers. Where once I would have been annoyed I now remained calm and had thoughts come to my mind such as, "Amy, perhaps you could say it this way..." Bit by bit my relationships with all my family members improved. Just as I started recognizing these changes I read Alma 32, a chapter in the Book of Mormon which expressed what I was experiencing - the book was beginning to enlarge my soul, to enlighten my understanding, and it was becoming delicious to me. I knew the book was true. I knew it was written by prophets of God and had the power to change lives. That is one of the main reasons I am a Mormon - the Gospel of Jesus Christ enables me to come to know Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ and to become like them. That was over 10 years ago. I have continued to study the scriptures and am learning more. However, just as I can lose my physical strength if I stop exercising, I know I can lose my testimony if I stop doing the little things. I want to always be true to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know this is His church and that it has the power to change lives, helping us become more like Him.

How I live my faith

I believe one of the best ways to live my faith is in the way I treat others. One of my sunday teachers taught me that activities such as scripture study, prayer, and church attendance are preparative - they prepare us to LIVE the gospel. They help bring the Spirit of the Lord into our lives - which inspires and directs us to live the gospel by serving and loving others. I have found the greatest joy as I attend the temple, prepare to teach church lessons, visit families and individuals, help others in yards and gardens, and by being a friend and being kind to all I meet. I want to be able to see others as the Lord sees them and to always treat them as He would treat them. I believe that is best way to live my faith.
