Hi I'm Amy Oakes

I grew up in Illinois. Moved to Arizona. Recent Convert. Newly wed. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a twin born 20 years ago and grew up in a city called Loves Park, Illinois, which is near Rockford Illinois. I had a great childhood with lots of friends, close family, sports such as basketball and softball, and school. My parents divorced when I was in sixth grade, but I remained close with both of them. Softball was my biggest passion, I played travel ball, high school, and I even walked on a division 1 softball team at Northern Illinois University. I quickly made the decision to leave Illinois behind and moved to Arizona where my mom recently moved. I met my current husband, friend at the time, and was introduced to the church and baptized my Return Missionary of a boyfriend. I am now married and a happy member of the church.

Why I am a Mormon

The reason why I made the decision to move to Arizona was because I was depressed and struggling in college. I considered myself a non denominational Christian, but did not have much guidance. I remember sitting on the top of my bunk bed in my dorm room, praying every night for help and guidance. After the first semester, I new I had to make a change, I packed up and flew to Arizona and started going to school there while living with my mother. My Best friend also moved there a year before I did, and introduced me to her boyfriend, and her boyfriend's best friend Ashton. Ashton just returned from El Salvador on a mission and introduced the church to my friend and I. After the discussions and the feelings that were felt, I knew that this was what was missing and could change my life. Even if I didn't understand everything at that time, I just knew that this was a wonderful life style to live by that would bring much happiness. I then made the decision to get baptized with my friend, which our significant others baptized us. I now am married to Ashton after a year and could not be happier. I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. I believe in the plan of Salvation. And I believe that families can be sealed together forever. This church has brought me much comfort, and looking back at all the changes in the past year and a half, I know that Heavenly Father has a great plan for all of us, even if there are some struggles. Never give up, and always have great faith.

How I live my faith

I currently serve a calling in Primary, attend church activities, hold family nights, and try to share my knowledge with everyone.
